City of Dearborn Career Opportunities seeks a part-time event staff member to support front-of-house operations at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn. You will assist with day-of-event duties, manage access, coordinate volunteers, and ensure guest safety and satisfaction.

Evenings and weekends are required; prior experience in event hospitality is preferred. You will work with clients, vendors, and staff to deliver smooth performances across theater spaces.

Qualifications

  • Two years of professional experience in a similar role in the event hospitality or performing arts industry preferred.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience dealing with a wide variety of people in a multitude of situations in a polite, yet direct, fashion.
  • Must submit to a criminal history check (including sex offender registry if applicable) and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Assist day-of-event duties throughout the entire event process.
  • Pre-Event duties include but not limited to: unlocking doors, lighting, safety checks, venue walkthroughs, and assisting with setup.
  • Event duties include ensuring venue accessibility, coordinating ushers, overseeing seat placement, and guiding patrons.
  • Post events duties include venue walkthroughs, collecting items, and coordinating with maintenance and cleanup.

Job Location: Ford Community and Performing Arts Center - Dearborn, MI 48126

Position Type: Part Time

Salary Range: $16.96 Hourly

HOURS: As needed, Evening and weekends based on facility event schedule

MINIMUM AGE: Must be at least 18 years of age

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK

The employee is responsible for providing professional and courteous front-of-house operational duties and customer support for the event spaces at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Enter including the Michael A. Guido Theater, Lincoln Ballroom and other event spaces. The employee also ensures the safety and comfort of all clients and patrons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employee is responsible to assist and manage day of event duties, throughout the entire event process.

Pre-Event duties include but not limited to.

  • Unlocking interior and exterior doors, turning on public space lighting prior to performances.
  • Perform pre-show safety check using established checklist.
  • Perform complete walkthrough of the venue to assess condition including public areas, restrooms, lobbies, theater, foyer and exterior building entrances.
  • Address any appearance and/or safety problems. Perform light cleanup duties as needed.
  • Assist clients and vendors with event setup as needed.

Event duties include but not limited to:

  • Ensure venue space is accessible to patrons at necessary times based on event schedule.
  • Communicates with Technical staff and client, to verify and implement proper event times.
  • Coordinates and manages volunteer ushers.
  • Oversees correct seat placement throughout the event venue.
  • Communicates emergency procedures and exit patterns to volunteer ushers prior to each performance.
  • Act as liaison between patrons and box office to resolve seating problems.
  • Assists late-arriving guests and monitors guest movement throughout an event.
  • Interacts with patrons, and provides answers or guidance for all questions or complaints.
  • Oversees preparation and distribution of event programs.

Post events duties include but not limited to:

  • Perform complete walk through of the venue to assess condition.
  • Check for litter and personal belongings left behind and return found items to the box office.
  • Communicate with maintenance staff any areas of concern.
  • Turns off lights in public areas and locks all interior and exterior doors after each event.
  • Assist clients and vendors with event cleanup as needed.

Complete accident report forms for any and all incidents occurring while on duty.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance as scheduled.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Follows facility emergency procedures and handles all emergency situations affecting patrons and the building while on duty. Such situations may include emergency evacuations (fire, bomb threat, power outage or other emergency in which patron safety is at risk), floods, physical plant issues, fire alarms, security breaches, patron illness or accident and inclement weather which may or may not affect the attendees or performers. Employee is responsible for notifying emergency authorities and theater personnel as required. Coordinates emergency actions with the Stage Manager, ushers and building security personnel.
