City of Dearborn Career Opportunities seeks a part-time Events Technician to support operations at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI. You will help load, set up, operate, and strike staging, AV, lighting, and rigging for events.

Experience in live events is preferred. The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, valid Michigan driver’s license, and reliable attendance to cover events and weekly schedules.

  • Provide day-of-event coordination and management for on-stage and backstage activities.
  • Collaborate with Theater Tech Director and staff to ensure clear communication.
  • Potentially drive city vehicles to deliver supplies and equipment.

Job Location: Ford Community and Performing Arts Center - Dearborn, MI 48126

Position Type: Part Time

Salary Range: $17.98 Hourly

Location: Ford Community and Performing Arts Center & locations around City of Dearborn

Hours of Work: Part time. Scheduling is based upon events and needs of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

An employee in this classification works on a part-time basis, providing support for the successful operation of events and activities at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center and other locations throughout the City of Dearborn. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Loading and unloading of stage, audio visual, lighting and event equipment from city vehicles; client and vendor vehicles.
  • Assist in the set-up, operation and strike of staging, audio, video, lighting, rigging, and event equipment.
  • Part of a team that provides, behind the scenes, support to internal and external clients, in the successful operation of their event.
  • Assist in general maintenance of stage, scene shop and storage areas.
  • May assist and have involvement in pre-productions meetings and planning of events.
  • Work in collaboration with Theater Tech Director, theater technicians, stagehands, and front of house staff, to provide clear and concise communication.
  • Provide day of event coordination and management for activities on stage and backstage areas, overseeing the entire day of production schedule.
  • May be required to drive city vehicles to deliver supplies and equipment to various locations.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Physical Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or formal education in technical theatre and live event operations.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Hours vary as scheduled. Some shifts may be 10+ hours.
  • Self-motivated; Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and act as liaison between client and stage and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and time constraints.
  • Ability to move and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand and be physically active for long periods of time.
Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Minimum 1-2 years previous working experience in live events or technical theatre.
  • Interest in live event and technical theatre operations.
  • Knowledge of theatrical lighting, audio, video, and rigging systems a plus.
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic manual and power shop tools.
  • Demonstrated organizational and management skills a plus
Licensing Requirements:
  • Criminal history check, drug screen and physical
  • Valid State of Michigan driver’s license
