Job summary

Los Angeles County Museum of Art is seeking a Conservator, Textiles, reporting to the Senior Conservator, Textiles, to care for the museum’s textile collections and oversee exhibitions, loans, and storage standards.

The role involves treating and examining textiles, developing storage standards, coordinating with curators, and supervising interns or fellows. This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Conservation with focus on textile conservation.
• Minimum 7 years of conservation experience, strong textiles background.
• Advanced knowledge of conservation principles, techniques, and materials.
• Experience as a museum professional with understanding of conservation and collections care.
• Mastery of conservation documentation and database management.

Responsibilities

• Research materials, techniques, construction, and deterioration to inform treatment and prevention strategies.
• Assess and document the condition of costume and textile objects across the collection.
• Prepare written and photographic documentation: condition reports, proposals, analyses, and handling guidelines.
• Collaborate with curatorial and registration staff on display requirements and loan feasibility.
• Plan and install permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibitions and loans.
• Serve as a courier for traveling exhibitions and loans.
