Job description

Hours: 10–15 hours/week

Compensation: $17.00 - 21.50/hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Reports to: LifeFx Testing Lead, with clinical supervision from licensed psychologists

Work Arrangement: Primarily in person, with flexible scheduling and approximately one Saturday per month and/or some evening availability

Position Purpose:

The LifeFx Testing Technician supports psychological and neurocognitive assessment services by administering and scoring standardized assessments, documenting testing observations, and helping create a positive, professional testing experience for clients.

Working under the supervision of licensed psychologists, the Testing Technician assists with assessments involving cognitive abilities, attention, memory, executive functioning, learning, and other areas of psychological and neurodevelopmental functioning.

LifeFx serves individuals across the lifespan, from young children through older adults. Testing Technicians adapt their communication and interpersonal approach to the client's developmental level, individual needs, and testing situation.

This position provides valuable hands‑on experience for individuals considering careers in psychology, school psychology, social work, occupational therapy, education, neuroscience, or other helping professions.

No previous psychological testing experience is required. Training is provided.

What Success Looks Like:

A successful Testing Technician helps ensure that assessments are accurate, standardized, organized, and comfortable for clients.

Success means:
  • Clients feel welcomed, respected, and supported throughout the testing process.
  • Assessments are administered according to standardized procedures and supervisory direction.
  • Test scoring is accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Testing observations and unusual circumstances are documented clearly.
  • Testing materials, protocols, and records are organized and secure.
  • The technician demonstrates consistent growth in assessment skills, professionalism, and independence within the boundaries of the role.
Core Responsibilities
  • Administer standardized psychological, cognitive, academic, attention, memory, and executive functioning assessments as assigned and permitted under appropriate supervision.
  • Prepare clients for testing by explaining procedures within the scope of the technician role.
  • Establish rapport and create a supportive testing environment.
  • Adapt interpersonal communication to the client's age, developmental level, and individual needs while maintaining standardized testing procedures.
  • Observe and document relevant testing behaviors, including attention, persistence, effort, frustration tolerance, and responses to challenging tasks.
  • Record testing conditions, interruptions, unusual responses, and deviations from standardized procedures.
  • Recognize when a testing concern requires consultation with the supervising psychologist.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and protect the integrity of test administration.
  • Score psychological and neurocognitive assessments using designated scoring manuals, protocols, and digital platforms.
  • Organize testing protocols and scoring summaries for review by supervising psychologists.
  • Complete scoring and documentation within established timelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate security of all testing materials and records.
  • Prepare testing rooms, materials, equipment, and protocols before appointments.
  • Welcome clients and help them feel comfortable during testing.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with clients, parents, caregivers, and team members.
  • Support a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach to client interactions.

The Testing Technician is a trained assessment support professional, not an independently practicing clinician.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Interest in psychology, school psychology, social work, occupational therapy, education, neuroscience, mental health, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Warm, professional interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to establish rapport with children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Patience and sensitivity when working with individuals with diverse cognitive, developmental, and behavioral needs.
  • Ability to learn and consistently follow detailed standardized procedures.
  • Comfort learning assessment software and digital scoring platforms.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Dependability and consistent attendance for scheduled testing appointments.
  • Willingness to receive training, supervision, and feedback.
  • Successful completion of required background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in or completion of postsecondary coursework in psychology, school psychology, social work, occupational therapy, education, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, adults, or individuals with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with ADHD, autism, learning differences, executive functioning challenges, or neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Previous exposure to psychological testing, academic assessment, clinical settings, or research.
  • Interest in pursuing graduate education or professional training in a helping profession.

Previous testing experience is not required.

Schedule & Commitment
  • This is a part‑time, hourly position averaging 10–15 hours per week.
  • Scheduling is flexible and designed to accommodate academic schedules and other commitments while meeting client testing needs.
  • Approximately one Saturday per month and/or some evening availability is expected.
  • Because training in standardized psychological assessments requires significant time and resources, a commitment of approximately one year is strongly preferred.
  • This position is particularly well suited for undergraduate students, recent graduates, graduate school applicants, individuals taking a gap year, and those seeking meaningful experience in psychological assessment or related fields.

17.00-21.50/hour | 10–15 hours/week, depending on experience and qualifications.

Benefits include:
  • Employer IRA match with immediate vesting
  • PTO that increases with tenure
  • Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST), separate from PTO
  • Continuing education reimbursement
  • Paid training in psychological test administration and scoring
  • Professional mentorship and supervision from experienced testing professionals and licensed psychologists
  • Hands‑on experience in psychological and neurocognitive assessment
  • Exposure to an interdisciplinary team and a wide range of developmental and cognitive presentations
  • Opportunities for professional growth and skill development
