Job summary

TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking commissioning technicians to support our client teams across the Mid-Atlantic region. You will handle pre-commissioning through energization, coordinating tests and documenting results for utility substation protection and control systems.

You will review diagrams, troubleshoot equipment, and participate in meetings while developing project-specific testing plans. Willingness to travel for multiple weeks and work flexible hours is required.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in testing and commissioning services, especially for electric utility or complex commercial equipment.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications and schematics.
Knowledge of protective relays and power systems protection is preferred.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, perform and document commissioning activities for substation protection and control systems.
Review wiring diagrams and engineering documents ahead of projects and outages.
Troubleshoot protection and control systems and related equipment.
Participate in project meetings and prepare progress reports.
Develop testing and energization plans and document results with proper risk controls.
Identify risks and mitigations; ensure safe isolation of circuits and equipment.

Due to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking more Commissioning Technicians to support our Client Teams across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning, through construction, testing - commissioning, energization - project close out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, schedules
Review of wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages
Perform troubleshooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground Faults
Participate in project meetings including but not limited to kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetings.
Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses
Assist in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation
Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high-risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safety.+
Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents. Make certain all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly.
Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment.

Qualifications

3+ years related experience with testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience is preferred but will train T-C Engineers with experience in commissioning complex commercial - industrial equipment including protective relays or other Power Systems Field Engineers with relay knowledge.)
Project located in Mid-Atlantic.
Demonstrated ability to both read and understand construction and manufacturer-s drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams
Strong knowledge of (or the ability to learn) electrical protection systems, including relay communication; Basic understanding of (or the ability to learn) AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one line and three-line interconnection diagrams
Prior professional experience in (or the ability to learn quickly) medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment. Perform basic apparatus testing and interpret test results with supervision.
Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of (or the ability to learn quickly) substation utility protection and control circuits. Perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision. Basic knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities.
Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/ or Protest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS are highly preferred.
Current US work eligibility is required together with a Valid USA driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required
Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time
Must be available work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and night work
Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and Team

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
