Job description

Overview

Due to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking additional Commissioning Engineers of varied experience levels to support our Client Teams. We have a staff of over 200 experienced utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, delivering comprehensive, cost-effective solutions safely to our Electric Utility Customers. Our in-house training ensures efficient project start-up and adherence to standards and specifications. We follow well-documented procedures to ensure safe and thorough planning and testing.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning, through construction, testing - commissioning, energization - project close-out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC’s and Client’s requirements, budgets, schedules
  • Review wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages
  • Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to application errors, drawing errors, wiring errors, setting errors, equipment malfunctions, battery ground fault, etc.
  • Participate in project meetings (kickoff, planning, progress, lessons learned)
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes progress, issues, recommendations, test results, and analysis
  • Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or other assigned documentation
  • Identify risks and mitigation techniques; develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high-risk construction and commissioning activities and formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration to ensure personnel safety
  • Ensure all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents, and that test results are acceptable, permanently recorded, filed, and distributed properly
  • Develop and review detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited institution and related experience with testing and commissioning services
  • Electric utility experience preferred; will train T-C Engineers with experience in commissioning complex commercial-industrial equipment including protective relays or other power systems; relay knowledge is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams
  • Strong knowledge of (or ability to learn) electrical protection systems, relay communication; basic understanding of AC/DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams
  • Experience in medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment; perform basic apparatus testing and interpret test results with supervision
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits; perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision; basic knowledge of commissioning methods to conduct and document activities
  • Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS preferred
  • Current US work eligibility and a valid US driver’s license issued by state of residence
  • Availability for out-of-town travel up to several weeks at a time
  • Availability for flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays and night work
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and team members

Compensation

Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographic location, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range

USD $67,496.00 - USD $108,160.00 per year.
