Job summary

TRC, Member of WSP, is seeking a skilled Technician to support transmission and distribution substation operations. You will help ensure system reliability, safety, and compliance with standards, performing testing and calibration tasks.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration.
• Experience with substation relaying and control schemes.
• Knowledge of 3-phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Ability to read wiring/diagrams and perform basic testing.
• Education in BET or AET at technical college or university.
• Experience with SCADA, SER, and integration automation testing.

Overview

TRC is seeking a skilled and motivated Technician to support our Transmission and Distribution substation operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring system reliability, safety, and compliance with operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct testing and routine maintenance of substation relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor types), control systems, and voltage regulation equipment.
• Calibrate protective relays and apply relay settings according to standards and operational requirements.
• Program Load Tap Changing (LTC) and voltage regulator controllers.
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs on substation relays and control devices within distribution substations.
• Plan and execute testing activities efficiently, adhering to schedules while ensuring service continuity.
• Maintain accurate documentation of testing procedures, results, and equipment configurations.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
• Knowledge of 3-phase power systems, power system protection & control schemes, test equipment, and test equipment software.
• Skills in test equipment and tool/wiring usage, interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams, basic test skills, and basic PC skills.
• Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment.
• Education: Bachelor of Electrical Technology (BET) or Associate of Electrical Technology (AET)
• Experience in SCADA, Fault Data, Sequence of Events Recorder (SER), and Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
