Job summary

Legrand in Reno, NV is seeking an entry‑level Test & Validation Technician to join the Data Center, Power, and Control Division. Under supervision, you will help define and implement test procedures, verify functionality, and ensure products meet design and regulatory standards.

You will perform basic electrical tests, review drawings, assist in lab setup, and maintain the test lab inventory while collaborating with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams to deliver reliable, high‑quality

Qualifications

  • Basic electrical understanding is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Self‑management including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication across manufacturing, engineering, quality, and purchasing.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Validate new products and revise against design specs; document results.
  • Review BOMs against the physical sample for discrepancies.
  • Perform thermal tests on PCBs and finished products.
  • Review pre-production prototypes using drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Diagnose and correct faults in prototypes and finished products.
  • Troubleshoot analog and digital test items.
  • Assist in setting up and running R&D experiments under engineering guidance.
  • Maintain the engineering lab and test validation inventory.
  • Foster positive internal relations with courteous, helpful conduct.
  • Demonstrate original thinking, creativity, and adaptability in problem solving.
  • Make timely decisions with sound judgment and inclusive communication.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Job description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Test & Validation Technician to join the Data Center, Power, and Control Division in Reno, NV. Under general supervision of the Operations Engineering Senior Manager, the Test & Validation Technician will support the Operations Department by ensuring new products have proper test procedures defined and implemented prior to release. The role is entry‑level and requires ensuring all regulatory and manufacturing tests meet standards for new and existing products and components, maintaining high‑quality outputs. The Technician will perform duties quickly, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental and company policies, and will promote a positive attitude, professionalism, and integrity.

Responsibilities
  • Validate new products and revise products against design specifications, ensuring proper functionality and document results.
  • Review BOMs against the physical sample and note any discrepancies.
  • Perform thermal tests on printed circuit boards and finished products.
  • Review pre‑production prototypes using supplied mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams to ensure correct manufacturing.
  • Diagnose and correct faults in prototype PCAs and finished products.
  • Troubleshoot analog and digital test items.
  • Assist in the setup and running of R&D experiments under the direction of engineering personnel.
  • Maintain and organize the engineering lab and test validation inventory as instructed by designated engineering personnel.
  • Promote positive company user relations by projecting a courteous, helpful attitude and assisting employees when appropriate.
  • Display original thinking and creativity; meet challenges with resourcefulness; generate suggestions for improvement; develop innovative approaches and ideas.
  • Display willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in decision‑making (specifically Department Managers); make timely decisions.

Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or GED supplemented by college‑level electronics technician coursework; associate’s degree in industrial electronics or related field preferred; or three years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
  • None required.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Basic electrical understanding/knowledge.
  • Computer proficiency with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Self‑management skills including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization/​planning skills and the ability to work independently.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of analog, digital, and microprocessor circuits.
  • Experience soldering and reworking fine‑pitch SMT circuit components.
  • Experience working on live high‑voltage circuits.
  • 2D and 3D CAD design experience.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 standards and audit processes.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment is fast‑paced with shifting priorities. Employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required and multitask regularly. Duties frequently require standing; walking; sitting; using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; and speaking or hearing. Employees must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually moderate.
