Job summary

VSE is seeking a Sr. Application Developer in California to lead major application programs, design and build full‑stack solutions, and solve complex integration challenges using T‑SQL, SQL Server, HTML and JavaScript.

You will define architectures with business units, enforce coding standards, review code, mentor peers, manage repositories, and support release processes, while ensuring security and reliable operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or 3 years equivalent).
• 6 years of relevant/technical work experience.
• Expert knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server performance tuning.
• Strong HTML and JavaScript skills.
• Experience designing APIs and system integrations.
• Experience as a technical lead on major programs or multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design of major custom applications and integrations.
• Write, review, and maintain code across the full stack (T-SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, HTML, and JavaScript).
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and reports using SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services.
• Lead refactoring and modernization of legacy code and set coding standards and reusable components for the team.
• Ensure applications meet enterprise security standards and best practices, including data encryption and access controls.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance and mentoring to other developers.
• Manage the code repository and source control practices, and lead participation in enterprise change management, testing, and release processes, including unit testing for infrastructure patching.
• Provide after-hours support and lead root-cause troubleshooting of application issues during outages.

## Description## Position SummaryThe Sr. Application Developer is the technical lead for major application development programs and multiple concurrent projects that support VSE Aviation business and technology needs. This role designs, develops, and maintains custom full-stack applications and tools, solves complex problems that require deep expertise and integration across systems, and drives the delivery and quality of development work with minimal direction.## Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Lead the technical design of major custom applications and integrations, working with business units to translate requirements into architecture and technical specifications. (20%)* Write, review, and maintain clean, efficient, well-documented code across the full stack, including T-SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, HTML, and JavaScript. (25%)* Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and reports using SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services. (10%)* Lead refactoring and modernization of legacy code, and set coding standards and reusable components for the team. (10%)* Ensure applications meet enterprise security standards and best practices, including data encryption and access controls.
