Job summary

Communications & Power Industries (CPI) in Plano, TX seeks a skilled technician to perform tuning, testing and troubleshooting of electronic components and systems. You will work from sketches and instructions under limited supervision, using advanced test equipment to support product development and manufacturing.

The ideal candidate has an AA degree or equivalent with 8–10 years’ related experience, is a U.S. citizen, and can pursue ITAR/EAR compliance.

Qualifications

  • AA degree or equivalent technical training with 8–10 years of related experience.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance.
  • ITAR/EAR compliance required; U.S. Person for ITAR/EAR purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs difficult electronic, mechanical and technical assignments such as tuning, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing electronics and mechanical equipment, tubes, microwave products and systems.
  • Conducts testing of electronic systems and improvises procedures when needed.
  • Develops or modifies electronic products and equipment to company or customer requirements.
  • Operates related electronic equipment to tune, test, troubleshoot and maintain products.
  • Evaluates electronic products and develops tuning, test and alignment procedures.
  • Recommends changes to improve operation or quality of electronic products and equipment.
  • Designs and improvises difficult electronic equipment, tools, and fixtures.
  • Provides technical assistance and training as necessary.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

To perform a variety of difficult technical assignments such as tuning, testing, troubleshooting electronic components and systems. Works from sketches and verbal instructions under limited supervision.

Machine and Equipment Used:

VNA, PNA, Oscilloscope, DVM, spectrum analyzer, and other test equipment

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
  • Performs difficult electronic, mechanical and technical assignments such as tuning, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing electronic and mechanical equipment, tubes, microwave products, component and systems, works from schematics, engineering drawings, written and verbal instructions.
  • Conducts testing of electronic systems and improvises procedures and processes if necessary.
  • Develops or modifies electronic products and equipment to company or customer requirements.
  • Operates related electronic equipment necessary to tune, test, troubleshoot and maintain specific products and equipment.
  • Evaluates various types of electronic products and equipment and develops tuning, test and alignment procedures.
  • Recommends changes or modifications to improve the operation or quality of electronic products and equipment.
  • Determines methods, operations and sequences in settling procedures for tuning, testing, troubleshooting, processing and modifying electronic products as required.
  • Designs and improvises difficult electronic equipment, tools, and fixtures as required.
  • Performs the more complex analyses of rejected returned, or in-process microwave tubes in support of engineering/manufacturing as required.
  • Provides technical assistance, aides in training and leadership as necessary.
  • Ability to train others on various standard electronic and technical assignments
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned.
YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE
  • Proficient in use of VNA, PNA, Oscilloscope, DVM, spectrum analyzer, and other test equipment
  • Team-oriented
  • Ability to use microscope daily
  • Typically requires A.A degree in related technology or equivalent technical training plus eight 6-9 years related experience or the combination of experience and training equal to ten (10) years.
  • An in-depth understanding of the instruments and equipment encountered in assigned area.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain/maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance
  • This position requires potential access to technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The successful candidate must be a “U.S. Person” as defined under ITAR and EAR. In order to be a U.S. Person for ITAR and EAR purposes, you must (i) be a citizen or national of the United States; or (ii) be a lawful permanent resident of the United States; or (iii)a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
