We are a leading manufacturer of three-phase step-down power transformers serving critical infrastructure across North America. Our team is dedicated to producing safe, reliable, and efficient energy solutions while maintaining the highest standards in engineering and testing.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Test Technician to perform electrical testing on high-voltage power transformers (69kV to 230kV). You will ensure products meet engineering, customer, and IEEE standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, safety focus, and the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and document test results effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive testing to validate transformer controls and electrical performance:
• Dielectric withstand and thermal capability
• Control circuits using VOMs and laptops
• Execute a wide range of tests, including but not limited to:
• Impulse testing (up to 1MV)
• Applied potential (>400kV)
• Induced voltage (>100kV at 240Hz)
• 60Hz performance testing
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
• Record and analyze test data; identify non-conformances and generate NCRs
• Maintain and calibrate test equipment as needed
• Work safely around high-voltage equipment using proper PPE and safety protocols
• Support both individual and customer-witnessed testing

• Turns Test, Ratio & Polarity
• Core Loss, DC Resistance, Load Loss
• Power Factor, Insulation Resistance
• SFRA, BCT Testing
• Heat Run, Dew Point, Oil Quality
• Final Electrical/Mechanical Inspection
• Control Box & Top Cover Checkout
• Sound Test, Corona, and Impulse (Special)
• Calibration of meters and electrical measuring devices
  
  
  

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with:
• 4+ years of progressive QA/electrical testing experience, OR
• 3+ years with supplemental electrical training, OR
• Associate degree in electrical field with some experience, OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with no experience
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, diagrams, and test specs
• Familiarity with IEEE standards and transformer testing protocols
• Experience with electrical test tools (voltmeters, ammeters, HiPot, SFRA, etc.)
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
  
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing at least 2 “Special” tests listed above
• Prior experience in high-voltage transformer testing
• Customer-facing testing experience
  
  
  

Physical Requirements & Safety

• Must be able to work in elevated or confined areas around large equipment
• Use of ladders, arc flash PPE, and electrically rated gloves required
• Committed to zero-harm safety culture and electrical work best practices
