Job summary

Wolfspeed, a leading semiconductor company in the United States, seeks a Reliability Lab Technician in North Carolina to join the test and qualification team. You will assemble test boards, perform precise soldering, and manage reliability tests per plan.

You will configure chambers, collect data, and maintain logs while mentoring junior technicians. The role requires attention to detail, hands-on lab work, and commitment to safety standards at Wolfspeed.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent in electronics or related field.
• 3+ years in a reliability/electronics test lab or similar role.
• Demonstrated soldering proficiency (through-hole and SMT); IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 preferred.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and build plans.
• Experience with lab equipment like power supplies, meters, and data loggers.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble test boards, fixtures, and test systems from engineer specs.
• Perform precision soldering and rework on test boards and interconnects (through-hole and SMT).
• Start, stop, and monitor reliability tests (HTOL, HTRB, THB, burn-in) per plans.
• Set up and configure test chambers, power supplies, data loggers and lab equipment.
• Troubleshoot test systems; escalate complex issues to reliability engineers.
• Collect, record, and organize test data; flag anomalies or out-of-spec results.
• Maintain documentation of test setups, run logs, and maintenance records.
• Support calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair of lab equipment.
• Assist with failure analysis support activities and sample handling.
• Maintain a clean, safe lab and mentor junior technicians on soldering and safety.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Build and assemble test boards, fixtures, and test systems from schematics, build plans, and specifications provided by engineers
• Perform precision soldering and rework on test boards, components, and interconnects (through-hole and surface-mount) to build reliability test vehicles
• Start, stop, and monitor reliability tests (e.g., HTOL, HTRB, THB, temperature cycling, burn-in, life testing) in accordance with test plans
• Set up and configure test chambers, power supplies, data loggers, and other lab equipment to support reliability test execution
• Perform routine and non-routine troubleshooting of test systems, fixtures, and equipment; escalote complex issues to reliability engineers
• Collect, record, and organize test data; perform basic data checks and flag anomalies or out-of-spec results to engineers
• Maintain accurate documentation of test setups, run logs, and equipment maintenance records in accordance with quality procedures
• Support calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair of lab equipment and test fixtures
• Assist engineers with failure analysis support activities, including sample preparation and handling
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab work area consistent with EHS standards
• Train and mentor junior technicians on soldering techniques, test system builds, and lab safety procedures

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• 3+ years of relevant experience in a reliability lab, electronics test lab, or similar technical support role
• Mandatory: Demonstrated soldering proficiency (through-hole and SMT); IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification preferred
• Ability to read and build from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering build plans
• Experience operating lab/test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, data acquisition systems, and environmental/temperature chambers
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed test procedures precisely
• Ability to work day shift, including occasional overtime as needed to support test start/stop schedules

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in semiconductor or electronics component reliability testing (HTOL, HTRB, THB, burn-in, temperature cycling, etc.)
• IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification
• Familiarity with reliability test standards (JEDEC, MIL-STD, AEC-Q)
• Basic troubleshooting skills with electrical/electronic circuits
• Experience with lab data systems or LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods while performing fine hand-eye coordination tasks (soldering, assembly)
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work with small components requiring precision and steady hands
• Comfortable working near test chambers with elevated/reduced temperatures under controlled safety conditions
