Responsibilities

  • Perform acceptance, maintenance, and troubleshooting testing of electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and document work on switchgear, breakers, relays, transformers, MCCs, ATS, cables, batteries, grounding, metering.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain electrical test equipment safely and accurately.
  • Analyze test results and identify abnormal conditions requiring corrective action.
  • Prepare field reports, test documentation, and equipment records with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate findings and project status to supervisors, managers, and customers.
  • Support emergency response, outage work, after-hours work, and scheduled shutdowns.
  • Mentor entry-level technicians and field assistants.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Perform acceptance, maintenance, and troubleshooting testing of electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and document work on:
    • Low- and medium-voltage switchgear
    • Circuit breakers
    • Protective relays
    • Power and distribution transformers
    • Motor control centers
    • Automatic transfer switches
    • Power cables
    • Batteries and battery systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Metering and control equipment
  • Execute electrical tests in accordance with company procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain electrical test equipment safely and accurately.
  • Analyze test results and identify abnormal conditions requiring corrective action.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and systems to identify operational deficiencies.
  • Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), arc-flash reviews, and pre-job safety planning activities.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and customer-specific safety requirements.
  • Prepare field reports, test documentation, and equipment records with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and project status to supervisors, project managers, and customers.
  • Support emergency response, outage work, after-hours work, and scheduled shutdowns as required.
  • Mentor and assist entry-level technicians and field assistants.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in electrical testing, field service, commissioning, industrial maintenance, electrical construction, utility operations, military electrical systems, or related power systems work.
  • Working knowledge of electrical theory, AC/DC systems, and power distribution equipment.
  • Experience performing testing, inspection, troubleshooting, or maintenance on electrical power equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Equipment manuals
    • Technical specifications
  • Knowledge of electrical safe work practices, including:
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • OSHA requirements
    • NFPA 70E
    • Arc-flash and shock protection principles
  • Experience using electrical test instruments and diagnostic equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and electronic reporting systems.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% based on project requirements.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in industrial facilities, substations, electrical rooms, construction sites, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc-flash and electrical safety equipment.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts when required.

The Test Technician II role serves as an intermediate technical position within the Electrical Power Services career path and may progress to Senior Test Technician, Lead Technician, NETA-Certified Technician, Project Manager, or other advanced technical leadership roles based on performance, experience, and business needs.
