Job summary

Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton is seeking a Test Safety Engineer to oversee the Test Safety Program, serve as Range Safety SME, and guide TRS policy across AFRL divisions.

The role demands ABET‑accredited engineering credentials, security clearance eligibility, and at least 1 year of specialized experience. Telework may be available per agency policy.

Qualifications

• US citizenship required.
• Engineering degree from ABET-accredited program.
• At least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade or equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service.

Responsibilities

• Manages and oversees the Test Safety Program and acts as Range Safety SME for the AFRL HQ Safety Office.
• Oversees safety analysis to support test planning and mishap investigation activities of the directorate.
• Supports development of strategy and its execution for the Technology Directorate's areas of responsibility and authority.
• Serves as the primary advisor on all issues regarding Test and Range Safety (TRS).
• Provides expert TRS leadership and guidance to AFRL/SE divisions, PMs, test managers/leads and test teams across AFRL.
• Coordinates TRS issues and guidance with AFMC/SE, AFRL/DO/EN and across AFRL enterprise.
• Assists in Flight Safety Program management and with aviation mishap investigations.
• Maintains qualifications and training in support of Flight Safety Program Management.
• Develops and implements Command and Center-level policies and establishes procedures for test safety programs.

• Test Safety Engineer (0803): To meet the eligibility of a Test Safety Engineer, applicants must meet the following basic requirements. Degree in Engineering. The program must have been ABET accredited. • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lowest grade level or equivalent grade level of the position being advertised

Desired Qualifications

• Aircraft Mishap Investigation Course (AMIC) is highly desired
• Aviation Safety Program Management (ASPM) is highly desired
• Rated—experience is desired
• Previous Test Safety experience is highly desired
• Experience working with or within the Department of War research community
• Additional Safety/Test Safety related degrees/courses are highly desired
