Qualifications

• Expert knowledge in standardized testing (SAT/ACT/ISEE/HSPT).
• Comfortable tutoring ACT/SAT and AP Physics courses.
• At least 2 years of verifiable tutoring/teaching experience.

Responsibilities

Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified test prep tutor with expertise in SAT, ACT, HSPT, and/or ISEE, as well as AP Physics tutoring. The candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, extremely comfortable multitasking, and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations but also working closely with our founder and other lead staff, this role requires collaboration across our outreach, operations, and client relations teams to ensure success for both our counselors and clients.

The majority of time will be dedicated to clients, supporting students on their journeys, ensuring the process goes smoothly, and deadlines are met. Weekly billable hours will vary depending on students' needs, as some students may not need weekly support, while others may require bi-weekly support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide individualized SAT/ACT instruction based on each student’s strengths, weaknesses, goals, and testing timeline.
• Teach effective test-taking strategies, content knowledge, pacing techniques, and time-management skills.
• Review diagnostic and practice test results to identify areas for improvement and develop targeted lesson plans.
• Assign appropriate practice work between sessions and hold students accountable for completing assignments.
• Track student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed to maximize score improvement.
• Help students understand and correct mistakes rather than simply reviewing answers.
• Build students’ confidence, independence, and familiarity with standardized testing.
• Maintain accurate and timely session notes, progress reports, and internal documentation.
• Communicate relevant progress, concerns, and recommendations to the company and, when appropriate, students and families.
• Collaborate with other tutors, counselors, and team members when a student’s testing plan intersects with their broader college admissions strategy.
• Stay current on changes to the SAT, ACT, digital testing formats, scoring, timing, and test-day policies.
• Participate in training, professional development, and team meetings as requested.
• Maintain a reliable schedule and arrive prepared and on time for all student sessions.
• Follow company policies regarding scheduling, cancellations, communication, confidentiality, and student interactions.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families and route scheduling, billing, program, or administrative questions to the appropriate team member.
• Create a positive, encouraging, and productive learning environment while maintaining high expectations for student engagement and preparation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education
• Bachelor's degree from a Top 50 institution
• Requirements
• Expert knowledge in standardized testing
• Comfortable tutoring ACT/SAT and AP Physics courses
• At least 2 years of verifiable experience, either
• Working for a reputable tutoring company or
• Working as a teacher at an accredited high school, college, or university
• Extremely reliable, friendly, and confident - no wallflowers! We only hire people with upbeat, outgoing personalities
• Demonstrated passion for helping students excel in school and reach their full potential
• Available after school and on weekends
• Access to a personal laptop for sessions
• Access to a reliable internet connection
• Reliable transportation with valid car insurance for potential in-person sessions
• Ability to consistently schedule with clients in different time zones
• Preferred but not required
• Experience tutoring other standardized tests (e.g., LSAT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, etc.)
• Classroom experience (as a teacher or teaching assistant)
• Teaching credential
• Postgraduate degree(s)
