Job summary

Benchmark Electronics in Rochester, MN is seeking an In‑Circuit Testing (ICT) technician to perform ICT and functional Go/No‑Go testing on PCBs and products. You will set up test equipment, operate instruments, read components, and document results in the Quality Management System.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years of advanced electronic test experience. Schedule is M‑Th 0600‑1600, full-time, with a pay range of $17.52–$21.27 per hour and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read schematics, drawings, and test procedures; understand test programs and QC requirements.
  • Willingness to train on new equipment and cross-train into other operations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up test equipment and follow test/assembly processes for each board or subassembly.
  • Operate test equipment and record failure parameters into the Quality Management System (PFS).
  • Identify components and read ICs, resistors, and capacitors; document results.
  • Flag defects and apply appropriate markings per QA procedures.
  • Follow step-by-step procedures to adjust frequency/voltage and verify test results.
  • Maintain records of units tested and pass/fail status using SPC charts.
  • Configure equipment independently and interpret basic test data.
  • Provide verbal or written reports to improve test procedures or tooling.
  • Assist in mentoring other testers and support engineers.

Job description

Summary

Performs In‑Circuit Testing (ICT) and functional Go/No‑Go testing on system assemblies, subassemblies, printed circuit boards and products using test equipment and a variety of test instruments and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Sets up test equipment and understands the test and assembly processes for each type of board or system/subassembly tested.
  • Operates test equipment requiring basic computer skills and knowledge of test programs so that proper identification and interpretation of failure parameters can be recorded and entered into the Quality Management System (PFS).
  • Identifies component types and reads component values or integrated circuits (ICs), resistors, capacitors, etc.
  • Identifies, by sight or with appropriate devices, workmanship and material defects and affixes appropriate marking or defect tags in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Follows step‑by‑step procedure while performing various duties such as frequency and/or voltage adjustment and observes meter readings to determine whether the item being tested meets minimum requirements specified in test procedure or test program.
  • Maintains records of units tested, accepted or rejected, utilizing statistical process control charts.
  • Applies basic to intermediate knowledge of applicable specifications and normal product standards to the performance of individual electrical test.
  • All employees are responsible for the quality of their work to ensure BEI meets or exceeds Customer Satisfaction.
  • Independently configures and operates test equipment and interprets basic test results; learns to relate the results to the specific PCB area to inspect for manufacturing defects.
  • Makes verbal or written reports on test findings to improve test procedures or test equipment.
  • If working with printed circuit boards, performs troubleshooting activities up to PCA level following techniques and procedures defined by test engineering.
  • Assists in mentoring and developing other testers when needed.
  • Assists engineers and test technicians as requested and under their guidance.
Qualifications
  • Ability to use hand tools and general test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscope, power supplies, etc.) when working with electronic components.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge operating DMMs to verify opens, shorts, resistance, and diode checks when working with electronic components.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, drawings, assembly prints, procedures, specifications and other documentation describing electronic assemblies when working with components.
  • Comply with BEI quality assurance policies and methodologies; understands and uses IPC quality and workmanship standards; develops a strong quality orientation.
  • Willingness to train on new equipment and cross‑train into other site operations as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

High School Diploma or GED. 2+ years of advanced electronic test experience (e.g., FCT/HASS).

M‑Th 0600‑1600 (Shift 1). Full time.

Compensation

$17.52 to $21.27 USD per hour (factors include skills, certifications, experience, etc.).
