Job Description

Urgent Need!

Responsibilities include the day‑to‑day operations of an academic department, assisting students toward successful program completion, and staffing the classroom with instructors who support the mission of the college. The Academic Department Director (ADD) is the principal academic officer for specific programs, co‑responsible with the Campus Head of Academic Affairs for fiscal well‑being, program promotion, and adherence to mandates from the Board of Trustees, President, and Executive Committee. The ADD must align the department’s activities with the organization’s philosophy of quality services to clients, employee development, growth, innovation, and positive thinking.

Key Job Elements
  • Provide academic leadership and select, train, develop, manage, and lead faculty and staff team members according to campus guidelines.
  • Provide support for college and community relations activities, planning and implementing a budget including personnel requirements, program expenses, and capital needs.
  • Support college programs aimed at achieving student completion rates as outlined in the five‑year strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with other Academic Department Directors within the same school and across schools for scheduling, sharing faculty, and other activities.
  • Perform other responsibilities as determined by the Campus Head of Academic Affairs.

Reports To: Campus Head of Academic Affairs
Directly Supervises: Faculty
Interacts With: Contact encompasses the entire range of personnel. Outside contacts may include community and professional leaders as well as other educators.

Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 3‑5 years related experience. Advanced certifications or credits toward further study are highly preferred.
  • Held positions of increasing responsibility in industry and/or Academic Affairs.
  • Fiscal and personnel management experience.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with supervisors and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self‑motivation skills.
  • Strong computer literacy skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a leader or team member and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Ability to listen to customers (staff, etc.) and respond positively to requests.
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines successfully.
