Job summary

X-energy LLC in Gaithersburg, MD invites motivated engineering students to join its Summer 2027 Internship Program. The on-site 10-week assignment offers hands-on experience in engineering projects, working with engineers and scientists to advance reactor design and licensing efforts.

Undergraduates earn about $25/hour and graduates $40/hour, with standard 8-5 hours, Monday through Friday. This pipeline position reviews applications on rolling basis and final offers depend on team needs.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in mechanical, electrical, or nuclear engineering.
• Knowledge in hardware development or design of experiments is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is expected.

Job Description

This role is responsible for supporting professional employees working in an organizational function related to the Intern's area of study. Depending on the internship assignment, the intern may work alongside engineers, scientists, or industry professionals to contribute to various projects related to their area of study. Under guided supervision, interns will assist with various projects and tasks, contributing to the organization's goals while learning from experienced professionals in the field.

What You'll Do

• Support active engineering projects and analyses within your area of study, contributing to work that advances real reactor design and licensing efforts.

What You’ll Bring

• Current enrollment in — or recent completion of — a degree in mechanical, electrical or nuclear engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Academic or hands-on knowledge in a minimum of one of the following areas:
  • Hands on experience with hardware development, testing and experimentation.
  • Demonstrated experience with design of experiment and test planning.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Curiosity, initiative, and a collaborative mindset — you're eager to learn and ready to contribute.

Program Details

Location: 9801 Washingtonian Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD

Work Site Expectations: Fully on-site, 5 days per week

Program Length: 10-week program (anticipated June–August 2027; exact dates to be confirmed)

Hours: Standard office hours, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.

A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$25/hour for undergrad; $40/hour for graduate
