X-energy is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Rockville, MD. This on-site, 10-week program supports engineering teams, contributing to design, analyses, and documentation under guided supervision.

You will assist with active projects in civil/structural areas, gather data, develop reports, and participate in design reviews. Applicants should be enrolled in or recently graduated in civil/structural/architectural engineering and be ready to learn in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a degree in civil/structural/architectural engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Academic or hands-on knowledge in design areas such as site development, grading, roadway, survey, stormwater or soils; or steel/concrete/ composite design; or architectural design and BIM drafting.

Responsibilities

  • Support active engineering projects and analyses related to the intern's area of study.
  • Assist with day-to-day technical and operational needs of the team.
  • Conduct research, collect data, and synthesize findings for design and analysis.
  • Help develop reports, technical documents, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
  • Organize and maintain project files, records, and documentation for traceability.

Depending on the internship assignment, the intern may work alongside engineers, scientists, or industry professionals to contribute to various projects related to their area of study. Submitting an application places you in consideration for upcoming opportunities as they open.**### What You'll Do* Support active engineering projects and analyses within your area of study, contributing to work that advances real reactor design and licensing efforts.* Assist with the day-to-day technical and operational needs of your team.* Conduct research, gather technical data, and synthesize findings to inform ongoing design and analysis initiatives.* Help develop reports, technical documentation, and presentations that communicate results to internal stakeholders.* Organize and maintain project files, technical records, and documentation to support traceability and quality.* Participate actively in team meetings, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions — bringing ideas, asking questions, and offering perspective.### ### What You'll Bring* Current enrollment in — or recent completion of — a degree in civil/structural/architectural engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.* Academic or hands-on knowledge in one or more of the following areas: + Design - Experience with site development, grading, roadway, survey, stormwater, hydrology or soil mechanics; or - Experience with design of steel structures, concrete structures, or composite structures; or - Experience with architectural design, such as claddings, insulation, automation, building components, or waterproofing; or - Experience with drafting, such as 2D/3D CAD modeling or Building Information Modeling (BIM) + Analysis - Experience with structural analysis using hand calculations and / or finite element analysis (FEA) software programs (e.g., ANSYS, LS-DYNA, ABAQUS, ADINA, OpenSees). - Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.* Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).* Curiosity, initiative, and a collaborative mindset — you're eager to learn and ready to contribute.**Application Requirements**Along with your resume, please submit **at least one letter of recommendation**.
