Job Description

Internship - August 10 - January 15

San Jose, CA - 100% onsite

Renesas Electronics, a leading global semiconductor company, is rapidly scaling its AI-focused Analog and Mixed Signal group. Products include high-performance ADCs, Power Management ICs, Sensors (Position, Temperature, etc.), Memory Drivers, Data Buffers, OpAmps, Digital Isolators and SRAMs.

As a Test Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced test engineers to support the development, debug, and characterization of automated test solutions for cutting‑edge semiconductor products. This is a hands‑on technical role that offers exposure to the full product test lifecycle — from bench bring‑up through production test — in a collaborative, high‑growth engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • ATE Test Support: Assist senior engineers in developing and debugging test programs on ATE platforms such as the Advantest V93000 or COHU Diamondx for analog, mixed‑signal, and power management devices.
  • Test Program Development: Write and modify test code in C++ or Python under the guidance of senior staff to support characterization and production test flows.
  • Bench Characterization: Support lab measurement activities using bench instruments including oscilloscopes, source measure units, and power supplies to collect and analyze device performance data.
  • Data Analysis: Process and analyze test data (STDF, CSV, Excel) to identify trends, yield anomalies, and correlate ATE results with bench measurements.
  • Load Board Support: Assist in load board bring‑up, debug, and basic schematic review activities under supervision of hardware engineers.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain clear engineering documentation including test plans, characterization summaries, and test flow descriptions.
  • Cross‑functional Collaboration: Work with Design, Product, and Quality engineering teams to understand device specifications and test requirements.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in technical training sessions and team meetings to build foundational expertise in semiconductor test engineering.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Fundamental understanding of analog and digital circuit concepts (coursework in circuits, electronics, or signals required)
  • Basic programming experience in Python or C++ (coursework or personal projects acceptable)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Exposure to semiconductor devices, VLSI, or mixed‑signal circuit design through coursework or research
  • Familiarity with lab instruments (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply) through lab coursework or projects
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Python (pandas, matplotlib), MATLAB, or Excel
  • Any prior internship or co‑op experience in semiconductor, hardware, or embedded systems
  • Familiarity with I2C, SPI, or other serial communication protocols
Compensation & Benefits

The expected hourly pay range for this position is $31.25/hr - $41.50/hr. This position is also eligible for bonus opportunities. Please note that the final offer amount, including any applicable bonuses, will be dependent on geographic location, relevant experience, and skillset of the candidate.

Interns may be eligible for certain company‑provided benefits, which can include sick leave, holiday pay, and medical, dental, and vision insurance. Eligibility and specific benefits will be provided in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
