Job summary

Renesas Electronics seeks an entry-level engineering technician to support the radiation effects test team in Palm Bay, FL. You will prepare DUTs/PCBs, set up lab equipment, and execute SEE and TID campaigns, including multiple facility visits.

You will work hands-on with test hardware, travel to external facilities, and document results with attention to detail, while embracing lab safety and ESD practices.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 3 years of experience in electronics/electrical engineering technology or related field.
• Good understanding of basic electronics lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supplies, electronic loads).
• Basic soldering skills - through-hole and SMT; fine-pitch rework under a microscope is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, and written test procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare devices under test (DUTs) and PCBs for radiation testing, including soldering, cabling, and mounting parts to fixtures.
• Set up, verify, and operate electronics lab and test equipment.
• Execute high dose rate TID testing and SEE testing per test plans.

We are seeking a motivated entry-level engineering technician to support our radiation effects test team. In this role you will prepare devices and circuit boards for testing and help execute radiation test campaigns, with a primary focus on single event effects (SEE) testing and a secondary focus on high dose rate total ionizing dose (TID) testing. You will work hands‑on with test hardware and instrumentation in the lab and travel to external radiation test facilities (gamma, X‑ray, proton, and heavy‑ion beam sources) to support live test campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare devices under test (DUTs) and printed circuit boards (PCBs) for radiation testing - including soldering, cabling/harnessing, and mounting parts to test fixtures.
• Set up, verify, and operate electronics lab and test equipment (oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, signal sources).
• Execute high dose rate TID testing and single event effects (SEE) testing in accordance with established test plans and procedures.
• Travel to and support test campaigns at radiation test facilities, including operating tests during scheduled beam time.
• Monitor devices during irradiation, capture and log test data, and document results in detailed, well‑organized test records.
• Support the development and use of automated test setups and data‑acquisition scripts.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 3 years of experience in the field (electronics, electrical engineering technology, or a related technical discipline).
• Good understanding of basic electronics lab equipment (oscilloscope, digital multimeter, power supplies, electronic load, etc.).
• Basic soldering skills - through‑hole and surface‑mount (SMT) work; comfort with fine‑pitch rework and inspection under a microscope is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, and written test procedures.
• Strong attention to detail with good record‑keeping and documentation habits.
• Familiarity with ESD‑safe handling practices.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a small test team, often under time pressure during limited beam time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PCB design and layout a plus.
• Exposure to or coursework in radiation effects concepts (TID, SEE, SEU, SEL, SEB, SEGR, LET, cross‑section, fluence/flux).
• Basic programming / scripting for test automation and instrument control (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, GPIB/SCPI).
• Experience programming or exercising microcontrollers or FPGAs to operate a DUT during testing.
• Familiarity with relevant test standards (e.g., MIL‑STD‑883 Method 1019 for TID; ASTM F1192 / JESD57 for SEE).
• Experience with device decapsulation / delidding or other die‑exposure techniques.
• Prior experience in aerospace, defense, space, or high‑reliability electronics environments.

Travel & Schedule

• Ability to travel on approximately 8 trips per year with a typical duration of 6-10 days per trip. Will require odd work hours including overnight and weekends.
• Beam time at radiation test facilities is scheduled around the clock and is costly and limited, so testing often runs continuously - flexibility and stamina during these campaigns are essential.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and transport test equipment and shipping cases (up to ~50 lbs) and to set up equipment at off‑site facilities.
• Comfortable working in laboratory, cleanroom, and accelerator / beamline environments.
