Responsibilities

  • Initial system and/or component design, ship alteration upgrades, and life cycle support. Project engineer oversight of all engineering tasks, ensuring technical quality, teamwork, schedules, budgets, and interface with Design and other orgs.
  • Evaluate and provide technical resolution to system and component questions from NAVSEA, Navy shipyards and prime contractors, communicating effectively within the organization and with NAVSEA.
  • Strong verbal communication within the team and with external partners.

Overview

Selected candidates will join a group that is responsible for supporting a wide range of electrical systems and equipment in the following areas: reactor plant instrumentation and control systems, steam and electric plant systems, auxiliary electrical/electronic systems, power distribution equipment and systems, and advanced power electronics. This position supports all fleet submarines, including Los Angeles, Ohio, Seawolf and Virginia classes; training platforms including S6G Moored Training Ships at NPTU Charleston, SC and the S8G Prototype at Kesselring, NY. This job will provide for an unusually large variety of work of differing durations, and increased responsibilities and independence as ability and experience supports.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include initial system and/or component design, ship alteration upgrades, and life cycle support. Candidates will function as a project engineer overseeing all aspects of engineering tasks including overall technical quality, working in a team environment, maintaining schedules, awareness of budgets, and interfacing with Design and other engineering organizations and disciplines. Candidates will also be required to evaluate and provide technical resolution to system and component related questions and problems from Naval Shipyards, Navy forces afloat, land based prototypes, reactor plant prime contractors and NAVSEA engineering and program offices. Selected candidates will be expected to effectively communicate within the organization as well as with NAVSEA, prime contractors, Navy shipyards and equipment vendors.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or higher
  • Experience working in a private or Naval shipyard
  • Nuclear Electrical or Reactor Controls Division leading chief petty officer experience
  • Squadron Engineering experience
  • Electric plant rotating machinery or power conversion equipment maintenance and repair experience
