Job summary

RiseMe in Middletown, RI is seeking a Test Engineer to join our team responsible for the test, evaluation, and design verification of the system under development. You will develop, modify, and execute test plans, procedures, and reports, with some travel and overtime as needed.

The ideal candidate has Navy submarine combat/training system familiarity (AN/BYG-1 preferred), DoD Secret clearance, a bachelor's in engineering or related field, and 2–4 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

Description

We are seeking a Test Engineer to join our team in Middletown, RI. The team is responsible for the test, evaluation, and design verification of the system under development. Additionally, the team ensures functional and technical specifications and standards are met, as well as investigate software and hardware interface problems. Responsibilities include developing, modifying, and executing test plans, test procedures and test reports. While this position will mostly have regular business hours, some overtime hours, shift-work and occasional travel may be required.

The ideal candidate will bring experience with Navy submarine combat or training systems, including familiarity with AN/BYG-1, basic computer/network hardware skills, attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to follow established procedures. This is a full-time position. The annual base salary is $95,000 – $110,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills. U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must have an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire.

Requirements

You’ll be responsible for:

• Analyze system requirements and technical documentation to develop appropriate methods for validating requirements through testing and other verification activities.
• Develop, modify, and maintain test procedures based on established test methods, system requirements, and technical documentation.
• Develop and analyze test cases and execute assigned test activities to support system verification and validation.
• Conduct verification and validation testing of corrective changes to confirm that identified issues have been resolved and applicable requirements are met.
• Participate in informal and formal test events, demonstrations, and other customer-driven test activities.
• Identify, analyze, and document software, firmware, and hardware defects and collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Assist with configuring and maintaining test laboratory environments in accordance with approved drawings, port maps, and system requirements.
• Conduct testing of computer and network equipment and assist with basic hardware, network, and test-environment troubleshooting.
• Document test results, maintain test records, and contribute to test reports and other technical documentation.
• Participate in technical and program meetings and communicate test status, issues, and risks to the appropriate team members and management.
• Identify functional issues and provide recommendations for resolution based on test results and technical analysis.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, external partners, and DoD laboratory personnel throughout the test and evaluation process.
• Perform assigned testing responsibilities with increasing independence, applying sound technical judgment and escalating complex issues when appropriate.
• Travel as needed to support customer, laboratory, and testing activities, including occasional non-standard work hours or schedule changes around testing events.

Required Skills:

• U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret security clearance at the time of hire.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline and 2–4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.
• Experience with software testing, systems testing, test engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Familiarity with Navy submarine combat systems, training systems, or similar Navy technical environments.
• Working knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
• Experience developing, modifying, executing, or documenting test procedures and test results.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate technical issues and identify potential solutions.
• Experience working with computer hardware, networking equipment, or test environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Basic Linux command-line knowledge.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work occasional shift schedules, overtime, and travel as required to support program testing.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with the AN/BYG-1 Combat Control System or similar Navy submarine combat or training systems.
• Prior Navy or submarine operations experience, particularly experience with submarine combat systems, sonar, or training systems.
• Experience supporting Navy training systems, formal test events, demonstrations, or customer acceptance activities.
• Basic understanding of networking, system integration, virtualization, or Linux/Windows environments.
• Familiarity with structured test methods, systems engineering processes, or requirements verification.
• Experience troubleshooting software, firmware, hardware, or system-integration issues.
• Experience with Strike Software, including TTWCS, TCIP, or MDS.
• Interest in using AI tools to improve testing efficiency, analysis, documentation, or other engineering processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to changing technical requirements.
