Job summary

Banner Engineering in Minnesota is seeking a Test Engineer to support continuous improvement of test systems across global manufacturing facilities. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to design, maintain, and improve automated test solutions, applying your knowledge of electronics, mechanics, and programming.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience in electrical test or systems engineering, strong problem solving, and hands-on ability to troubleshoot test stations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Physics or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in electrical test, process, or systems engineering.
• Proficiency in C#, C++, Python, or Visual Basic.
• Experience developing, improving, and troubleshooting test systems on production floors.
• Ability to analyze electrical schematics and circuit designs to improve test systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, improve, and maintain automated test programs using Python, C#, C++, TestStand, LabVIEW, or similar platforms.
• Upgrade and overhaul existing test systems to improve quality, process control, and usability.
• Analyze operator interactions to reduce manual steps and optimize test flow.
• Define test requirements, plans, and procedures based on equipment and product specs.
• Analyze test data to support root-cause investigations and drive corrective actions.
• Support manufacturing by troubleshooting test stations and improving throughput.
• Create detailed electrical schematics and drawings with a test technician.
• Integrate instruments such as DMMs, power supplies, optical power meters, and interfaces (Ethernet, RS232).
• Integrate automation equipment such as actuators and vision systems.
• Perform design reviews with design teams to improve testability and manufacturability.
• Ensure test systems comply with safety standards and quality processes.
• Document test designs, results, maintenance procedures, and calibration requirements.
• Evaluate electrical designs to meet intended requirements.
• Collaborate with optical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers to deliver competitive products.

Position Summary

Test Engineer plays a key role in supporting continuous improvement of test systems at our global manufacturing facilities. This position will work within a multidisciplinary team to maintain, improve, and design test solutions working independently with direction from their manager. The ideal candidate brings strong problem-solving skills and a proven ability to understand electronics and mechanical design, as well as programming concepts and technologies.

• Develop, improve, and maintain automated test programs using Python, C#, C++, TestStand, LabVIEW, or similar languages and platforms.
• Upgrade and overhaul existing test systems to improve quality, process control, and operator usability.
• Analyze operator interactions within test sequences to reduce manual steps and optimize test flow.
• Define test requirements, plans, and procedures based on existing test equipment and/or product specifications.
• Analyze test data to support root-cause investigations, improve yield, and drive corrective actions.
• Support manufacturing by troubleshooting test stations, resolving equipment issues, improving tester designs, and optimizing test throughput.
• Create detailed electrical schematics and drawings in collaboration with a test technician.
• Integrate instruments such as DMMs, power supplies, optical power meters, and communication interfaces (Ethernet, RS232).
• Integrate automation equipment such as electric linear actuators, pneumatic actuators, and vision systems.
• Perform design reviews and collaborate with design teams to improve product testability and manufacturability.
• Ensure test systems comply with applicable safety standards and quality processes.
• Document test system designs, results, maintenance procedures, and calibration requirements.
• Evaluate electrical designs to ensure the products meet the intended requirements.
• Collaborate with optical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers to provide globally competitive products

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of experience in electrical test, process, or systems engineering.
• Proficiency in software development using environments such as C#, C++, Python, or Visual Basic.
• Experience developing, improving, and troubleshooting test systems on the production floor.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze electrical schematics and circuit designs to understand circuit functionality, identify critical test points, and develop effective electrical test systems for new and existing products.
• Experience supporting manufacturing processes, with a strong understanding of process flow and the ability to identify issues and improve product quality and throughput.
• Proven ability to conceptualize, design, and support the development of test systems that improve efficiency, quality, and process repeatability.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, and process-related issues.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

• Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuits.
• Test software development experience using TestStand or LabVIEW.
• Strong applied statistical skills to analyze test and manufacturing data, identify process variation, and support yield and continuous improvement efforts.
• Experience with automated test instrumentation, measurement systems, and/or motion control.
• Previous experience with Lean manufacturing and/or continuous improvement.
• Comfortable collaborating with operators, technicians, engineers, and cross-functional teams to improve quality and yield.
• Working understanding of microcontrollers/microprocessors
• Ability to plan and prioritize multiple projects.

Base Pay Range: $74,470.00 - $105,064.00

The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
