Key Responsibilities
- Test Lab Ownership: Keep the test lab running: equipment availability, capability, calibration status, cleanliness, and safety.
- Coordinate test priorities with Production and Quality so parts move through test on schedule.
- Maintain and improve existing hydraulic and pneumatic test benches, flow benches, leak and proof test stands, and related instrumentation.
- Own and document preventive maintenance and calibration coordination for test equipment.
- Train test technicians and verify that they are qualified to the procedure before they run the job.
Test Methods and Equipment
- Develop and maintain acceptance test procedures from customer specifications and drawings, with setup, sequence, tolerances, and pass/fail criteria that are unambiguous to the operator running them.
- Design, modify, and commission test benches and fixtures: circuit design, component selection, instrumentation, plumbing, and controls.
- Own pressure and flow measurement across the shop. Understand the relationship between pressure drop, flow, cracking and reseat pressure, hysteresis, response time, and leakage, and know what each acceptance criterion is actually proving.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automated test and assembly equipment, and identify test operations worth automating.
- Troubleshoot units that fail acceptance test. Isolate the cause to part, process, or test setup, correct it, and feed the finding back into the build.
New Part Introduction
- Assess testability early on new parts and flag requirements that cannot be verified with current capability.
- Define the test method, fixturing, and acceptance criteria for new parts, working with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality.
- Write and validate test work instructions, and prove them out before release so that what is written actually produces a good part.
- Document qualification results: what was run, what the data showed, and what the released method is.
Components You Will Work On
- Pressure control valves, relief valves, check valves, shuttle and selector valves, solenoid valves, and servo valves.
- Pressure switches, transducers, and other pressure sensing hardware.
- Manifolds, actuators, accumulators, and related hydraulic assemblies.
Five or more years of hands-on experience in hydraulic or pneumatic component test, fluid power systems, or test equipment engineering. Aerospace, defense, or another regulated industry preferred.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred. Equivalent hands-on fluid power and test experience will be considered in place of the degree.
- Experience designing and operating test benches.
- Working command of pressure and flow: circuit behavior, measurement methods, instrumentation selection, and test uncertainty.
- Experience testing valves and pressure sensing components, or clearly transferable component-level test experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, hydraulic schematics, and written specifications.
- Proficient with precision measuring and calibrated equipment: pressure gauges, transducers, flow meters, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and oscilloscopes.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the discipline to document what you found.
