Qualifications

• 4–6 years of hands-on mechanical/technician experience in a lab or production setting.

Responsibilities

• Create, modify, troubleshoot, and test mechanical/electromechanical prototypes, assemblies, fixtures, and subsystems.
• Set up and run engineering tests, collect data, and document results and observations.
• Design and build test fixtures and tooling using machining and additive manufacturing.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings and CAD models, ensuring fit and tolerances.

We are looking for a Test Engineer – Development - Mechanical to support R&D activities involving capital equipment, instruments, disposables, and related medical-device subsystems.

This is a hands-on role focused on prototype development, engineering testing, test fixture development, troubleshooting, dimensional inspection, and technical documentation. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams to improve product designs and provide practical feedback on manufacturability, fit, function, tolerancing, and design robustness.

Location: Warsaw, Northern Indiana/USA
Work Mode: 100% On-site

Key Responsibilities

• Create, build, modify, troubleshoot, and test mechanical and electromechanical prototypes, assemblies, fixtures, and subsystems.
• Support mechanical design iterations through prototype fabrication, assembly, fit checks, tolerance evaluation, and structured troubleshooting.
• Design and build engineering test fixtures and development tooling using machining, additive manufacturing, hand fabrication, and commercially available components.
• Set up and execute engineering tests for design characterization, design verification, reliability, and process validation.
• Collect, analyze, and accurately document test data, observations, and results.
• Support the development and improvement of test methods, including fixture definition, equipment selection, repeatability, and acceptance criteria.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, CAD models, specifications, tolerances, GD&T, and bills of material.
• Provide practical feedback related to manufacturability, fit, function, tolerancing, and design robustness.
• Support the creation, revision, and release of engineering documentation, including drawings, test methods, protocols, reports, work instructions, and design records.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain R&D laboratory equipment, measurement tools, prototype fabrication equipment, and test systems.
• Perform dimensional and functional inspections of prototype components using appropriate metrology tools.
• Communicate deviations, anomalies, and opportunities for design improvement clearly to engineering teams.
• Coordinate prototype builds, test setups, equipment availability, and test execution according to project schedules and engineering priorities.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Systems, Electrical, Software, Disposables, Operations, Quality, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and support product-development activities.
• Follow approved procedures, protocols, good documentation practices, and applicable quality-system requirements.

Required Profile

Experience

• 4–6 years of relevant professional experience in an engineering technician, mechanical technician, prototype technician, test technician, or equivalent hands‑on technical role.
• Experience working with mechanical or electromechanical prototypes, assemblies, fixtures, and testing.
• Experience interpreting mechanical drawings, CAD models, specifications, tolerances, and bills of material.

Technical Skills

• Hands‑on experience with prototype fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing.
• Knowledge of mechanical testing methods and measurement techniques.
• Experience with dimensional inspection and metrology tools.
• Ability to understand and apply tolerance concepts and GD&T.
• Ability to document test procedures, results, observations, and technical findings accurately.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting medical-device R&D, new product development, design verification, or reliability testing.
• Experience working in a regulated industry with exposure to GMP, ISO, FDA, or comparable quality-system requirements.
• Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software.
• Experience with tolerance stack‑up concepts.
• Experience with prototype machining and additive manufacturing/3D printing.
• Experience designing or improving engineering fixtures, test methods, and prototype build processes.
• Experience working with mechanical test equipment and R&D laboratory environments.
