Job summary

HRU-Tech seeks a motivated Test Engineer to support instrumentation and environmental testing of military vehicle components. You will learn test equipment and procedures, develop test plans, and work with engineers, PMs, and QA to ensure safety, cost, and value for customers and soldiers.

The role involves designing fixtures, coordinating with vendors, and delivering weekly status reports while learning EVMS and participating in field and lab testing across multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in engineering or technical work is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Learn test equipment, methods, and MIL-STD-810, APTD-2404, ATPD-2167, TOPs, ITOPs.
  • Develop test plans and reports for sub-system testing on military vehicle components.
  • Assist in executing test plans and gathering data for system-level testing on military vehicles.
  • Design fixtures for mounting items on shaker tables.
  • Order and track materials; coordinate with PMs, Engineers, and QA to tailor test plans.
  • Collaborate with vendors to address quality issues discovered in test.
  • Coordinate with lab technicians and field engineering representatives as required.
  • Provide high-level estimates for labor hours and material dollars for testing.
  • Create and maintain test schedules and resources for test programs.

Job description

Seeking a motivated Test Engineer with demonstrated abilities in instrumentation, understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, environmental testing, hands-on experience in troubleshooting, able to work with a range of personalities, with the drive and motivation to be where the work is, participating in achieving the best outcome for our customers and soldiers.

Responsibilities to Anticipate for this role
  • Learn various test equipment, test methods, and procedures identified in MIL-STD-810, APTD-2404, ATPD-2167, TOPs, ITOPs
  • Develop test plans and reports for sub-system level testing on military vehicle components using MIL-STD-810, ATPD-2404, and ATPD-2167
  • Assist in executing test plans and gathering data for reports for system level testing on military vehicles using TOPs and ITOPs
  • Design fixtures for mounting test items on our shaker tables
  • Order and track materials
  • Work with Program Managers, Engineers, and Quality to Tailor test plans with appropriate attention toward user safety, cost, time, and value added.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to address quality issues discovered in test
  • Conflict mediation and resolution abilities for meetings between engineering and test representatives
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Program Managers, Production Quality, and Supply Chain Management
  • Provide high level estimates for labor hours and material dollars related to sub-system level testing
  • Create and maintain test schedules and resources for test programs
  • Willing to learn and use EVMS (Earned Value Management System)
  • Prepare weekly status reports for management and project leadership
  • Develop instrumentation plans for vehicle program
  • Assist technicians in learning any newly required instrumentation technologies or methods, and be equally willing to learn from them
  • Occasionally Interface directly with USG customer and users
  • Coordinate with lab technicians and other subject matter experts as required
  • Coordinate with field engineering representatives as required
  • Communicate program issues, needs, and updates with management, project leadership and GDLS leadership
  • Set up weekly tag-up meetings when necessary to keep team focused on progress
  • Willingness to run LRU tests on a weekend if necessary due to timing of test windows and to keep schedule
  • Experience in military vehicle firing range and field test preferred
  • Create scope of work documents for suppliers and other GDLS related test activities
Qualifications Sought
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or other technical degrees
  • Experience in engineering or technical work is a plus
  • Personal computer skills: MS Office Suite, Mechanical Modeling, Electrical and Hydraulic Schematics, data acquisition systems, some programming language or script writing experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in use of Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, and able to read schematics for troubleshooting.
  • Experience soldering circuit cards or wiring, experience crimping pins and building harnesses.
  • Experience with CAD software, and experience building / repairing mechanical and fluid systems.
  • Occasional travel required to various test sites
  • Great writing and communication skills
  • Self motivated with initiative to get involved in productive work
  • Strong ability and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Extended hours and weekends required on occasion
  • Able to bring leadership skills and give direction as needed.
