Job description

The Environmental Test Engineer serves as the critical link between internal engineering design and validation. This high-impact role performs the end-to-end execution of internal and third-party testing while acting as the primary hands‑on owner of test setup, execution, teardown, and reporting. You will work to troubleshoot hardware setups in real-time, and you will also translate complex engineering requirements into standardized test procedures that include equipment and device build guides. You are the "Source of Truth" that tests execute with the same precision at all sites.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Writing & Knowledge Management

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Author, standardize, and maintain high-fidelity documentation for tests including Vibration and Thermal Stress testing, and other product integrity/reliability tests.

Setup and Equipment Hardware Build Guides: Create visual, step‑by‑step assembly manuals for device under test (DUT) and test equipment setups to ensure external labs mirror internal configurations exactly.

Debug Documentation: Develop comprehensive "If/Then" troubleshooting trees for engineers and lab technicians to minimize downtime during off‑hours or night shifts.

Reporting: Translate raw test data and daily "lab-speak" into clear, concise, high‑level status reports for teammates, stakeholders, and leadership.

Technical Execution & Coordination

Own Testing: Build test setups and rigs to support test requirements. Manage the day to day tasks required for testing.

Real‑Time Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve logistical or technical bottlenecks immediately to prevent schedule slippage.

Effective Communication: When blocked, document and articulate issues upward to bring in team support; ask for resources while planning, setting up, executing, and tearing down tests. Build relationships with internal cross functional staff and external test lab employees. Work with the test team including test coordinator and technical program managers to communicate and manage changes to the planned schedule.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years in a lab or hardware testing environment

Technical Background: Proven experience drafting Test Plans, Equipment Build Guides, and SOPs. Ability to interpret CAD drawings and electrical schematics to create assembly instructions. Hands‑on experience using vibration shakers, thermal chambers, liquid chillers/heaters, instrumentation, and other essential lab tools/equipment.

Soft Skills: High‑level negotiation, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex "lab-speak" into actionable engineering team updates.

Self Starter: Able to work with minimal supervision and know to reach out for support when blocked. Acts like an owner taking responsibility for the workload while being quick to adapt to changing customer requests.

Driving

2. Drive to and work from external test labs within 50 miles of the office area (Fremont, San Jose, etc.)

Pay range is $60-$70 per hour with full benefits available, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, 401K, parental leave, and more.
