Job summary

Ideal Innovations, Inc. in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Test Engineer to design, develop, and execute automated tests that improve software quality in a CI/CD and AWS cloud context.

You will collaborate with Software Developers, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to align tests with acceptance criteria and build automation frameworks using Selenium or Katalon Studio, integrating with Jenkins and GitHub in a commercial cloud.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with at least a CI-poly.
• BS degree with 4+ years of relevant experience or MS with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Significant experience in software quality assurance with focus on automation testing.
• Experience creating, authoring, executing and documenting test cases for software products in Agile cadence.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing robust automation frameworks (Selenium or Katalon Studio).
• Strong programming skills in Java or Python for scalable test scripts.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub) and integration with automated tests.
• Direct experience with software performance testing in commercial cloud environments (AWS).
• Experience in SAFe Agile and DevOps development environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively to execute test cases aligned with development efforts.

• Pay or shift range: $87,100 USD to $133,832.50 USD Ideal Innovations, Inc. is committed to pay transparency. Highlights:

• Play a key role in the software development lifecycle by designing, developing, and executing automated tests that improve software quality and reliability.
• Build robust automation frameworks and scalable test scripts using Selenium or Katalon Studio with Java or Python.
• Integrate automated testing with Jenkins, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines to support repeatable, continuously improved releases.
• Test custom applications in an AWS commercial cloud environment across functional, regression, end-to-end, and performance testing.
• Collaborate with Software Developers, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to align testing with User Story Acceptance Criteria.

Typical Day:

As a Test Engineer on this program, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, and execute automated tests to ensure the quality and reliability of software applications and services in a Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery Pipeline within a commercial cloud environment. You will play a crucial role in the software development lifecycle, aiming to streamline testing processes, reduce defects, and accelerate software releases.

Tasks:

• Participate in program Agile software development initiatives (standup, planning, increment planning) to support innovation and enhancement of custom applications through iteration/functionality testing within a commercial cloud environment.
• Participate and collaborate with team members to assess StoryPoint/complexity efforts (using best practices) to ensure proper testing and delivery of functionality per User Story Acceptance Criteria.
• Collaborate with team members (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Software Developers) to develop test approaches with emphasis on automation of recurring/regression test cases through selected toolsets.
• Develop automated test cases using knowledge of custom Applications through designated GUI/COTS products (ex: Selenium and Katalon Studio).
• Leverage DevOps practices to ensure repeatability and Configuration Management of test cases/scripts are maintained and continuously improved.
• Develop and document end-to-end functionality test case narratives using task management system (JIRA/Confluence) and support performance testing/evaluation activities using tools such as Jmeter.

Required Qualifications:

• To be considered, must have an active TS/SCI with at least a CI-poly.
• Education: BS degree with 4 or more years of prior relevant experience or Master’s with 2 or more years of prior relevant experience. Will consider experience in lieu of a degree.
• Experience in software quality assurance with a significant focus on automation testing.
• Experience with creation, authoring, execution and documentation of test cases/result sets for software products in an agile cadence.
• Hands‑on experience in designing and implementing robust automation frameworks using tools like Selenium or Katalon Studio.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Java or Python, enabling the ability to write efficient and scalable test scripts.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub) and their integration with automated tests.
• Direct experience with software performance testing practices.
• Experience working/testing within Commercial Cloud Platforms (ex: AWS) and DevOps tools, and working in a SAFe Agile and DevOps development environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative environment to execute test cases complementary to development efforts.

Desired Qualifications:

• Hands‑on experience with Katalon Studio and Katalon Runtime Engine
• Direct experience with AWS environments
