Job summary

Ideal Innovations, Inc. seeks a Principal Test Engineer to provide principal-level test engineering in a commercial cloud environment, supporting automated testing across a CI/CD pipeline.

You will develop scripts, evaluate results, and strengthen feedback loops to improve product quality. The role includes cross-training in systems engineering, software development, training, and security, with on-site work in Bethesda, MD.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with at least CI-poly.
• BS with 12+ years of relevant experience or MS with 10+ years; degree may be waived for equivalent experience.
• Experience testing backend and frontend applications, scripting in Python, and test data/script development.
• Knowledge of software performance testing and agile test case documentation.
• Experience with Commercial Cloud Platforms (AWS) and DevOps in SAFe environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead automated testing across CI/CD in a cloud environment.
• Develop automated test cases using GUI/COTS tools (Selenium, Katalon Studio).
• Collaborate with Scrum roles to plan testing and ensure User Story acceptance criteria.

• Pay or shift range: $131,300 USD to $201,748 USD Ideal Innovations, Inc. is committed to pay transparency. Highlights:

• Provide principal-level test engineering expertise within a commercial cloud environment, supporting automated testing across a CI/CD pipeline.
• Develop software scripts, evaluate test results, and establish feedback loops that strengthen product quality and delivery.
• Lead back-end and front-end application testing, test data and script development, and software performance testing practices.
• Use Selenium, Katalon Studio, Python, JMeter, JIRA, and Confluence to automate, document, and continuously improve testing.
• Bring broad technical depth with opportunities to cross-train in systems engineering, software development, training, and security.

Typical Day:

As a Principal Test Engineer on this program, you will have the opportunity to perform software development to implement scripts, evaluate test results, and feedback loops in a Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery Pipeline within a commercial cloud environment. Flexible cross-training to also provide systems engineering, software development, training, and security. Job duties are performed within a commercial cloud environment.

Tasks:

• Participate in program Agile software development initiatives (standup, planning, increment planning) to support innovation and enhancement of custom applications through iteration/functionality testing.
• Participate and collaborate with team members to assess StoryPoint/complexity efforts (using best practices) to ensure proper testing and delivery of functionality per User Story Acceptance Criteria.
• Collaborate with team members (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Software Developers) to develop test approaches with emphasis on automation of recurring/regression test cases through selected toolsets.
• Develop automated test cases using knowledge of custom Applications through designated GUI/COTS products (ex: Selenium and Katalon Studio).
• Leverage DevOps practices to ensure repeatability and Configuration Management of test cases/scripts are maintained and continuously improved.
• Develop and document end-to-end functionality test case narratives using task management system (JIRA/Confluence) and support performance testing/evaluation activities using tools such as Jmeter.

Required Qualifications:

To be considered, must have an active TS/SCI with at least a CI-poly.

• Education: BS degree with 12+ years of prior relevant experience or Master’s with 10+ years of prior relevant experience. Will consider experience in lieu of a degree.
• In-depth experience testing both back-end and front-end applications processes, scripting languages (ex: Python) to automate tasks, and test data/script development.
• Knowledge of or direct experience with software performance testing practices.
• Direct experience with creation, authoring, execution and documentation of test cases/result sets for software products in an agile cadence.
• Significant experience working/testing within Commercial Cloud Platforms (ex: AWS) and DevOps tools, and working in a SAFe Agile and DevOps development environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work within collaborative environment to execute test cases complimentary to development efforts.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with administration of MS Windows Server or Linux environments (Lab or Personal development space)
• Experience reviewing output of CI jobs and capable of tracking test failures back to code changes that resulted in bugs
• Capable of review code check-ins to understand the impact of code changes on system functionality and potential applications bugs
• Direct experience with AWS environments
