Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Software Engineer or Principal Software Engineer in Waynesboro, VA for on-site work with 10% travel. The role requires the ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance and Special Program Access.

Responsibilities include HW/SW integration, firmware design, and real‑time data analytics. Basic Qualifications include a degree with experience in SDLC and Agile environments, with proficiency in C/C++, Python.

• Experience with SDLC
• Experience working in an Agile Environment

The position may be filled as a Software Engineer or a Principal Software Engineer.

This role is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain Special Program Access.

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience, or master’s degree with 3 years of experience, or Ph.D. with 1 year of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• U.S. citizenship required
• Ability to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance
• Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
• Experience with SDLC
• Experience working in an Agile Environment
• Experience with software languages C, C#, C++, Python
• Experience with SW integration
• Effective verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline
• Experience with hands‑on troubleshooting
• Experience with PLC/HMI software (e.g., RS View, RS Logix5000)
• Experience with hardware driver development
• Experience with FPGA programming
• Firmware design experience a plus
• Experience with RTOS
• Experience with LabWindowsCVI or AMAX (a huge plus)
• Technical lead experience
• Active Secret clearance

Salary Range

Primary Level: $79,300.00 – $118,900.00

Secondary Level: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00
