Job summary

Dover Food Retail is seeking a Test / Controls Engineer for our Conyers, GA facility. You will program, test, and optimize electrical control systems for our commercial refrigeration products, partnering with Quality, Product Engineering, and Vendors to meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.

This on-site role requires a hands-on engineer with PLC experience and familiarity with Danfoss, Copeland, and Novar controllers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and at least 3 years in controls or test engineering in manufacturing.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs and integrating control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and work with low‑voltage control circuits.
• Strong problem-solving and CAPA experience.
• UL standards familiarity is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Testing & Quality Assurance
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, validation procedures, and end‑of‑line functional testing for electrical and electronic control systems.
• Integrate communication protocols to ensure connectivity between production processes, equipment, and data management systems.
• Automate test setups using data acquisition hardware and software to improve testing efficiency, accuracy, and data logging.
• Analyze test data to identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
• Validate compliance with industry standards, including UL.
• Cross‑functional collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering to design, maintain, and optimize functional in‑process validation, error proofing, and end‑of‑line testing on the Conyers production floor.
• Support Quality and Field Service teams with root‑cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5‑Why).
• Document specifications, wiring diagrams, SOPs, and validation reports.

Job Title: Test / Controls Engineer (on-site) Location: Hillphoenix, Conyers, GA

What we’re looking for:

Hillphoenix is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Test / Controls Engineer for our Conyers, GA facility. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, testing, and optimizing electrical control systems for our industry‑leading commercial refrigeration systems. You will collaborate closely with Quality, Product Engineering, and Vendors to ensure all products meet rigorous performance, safety, and reliability standards. This role is highly critical to ensuring our products seamlessly integrate with major retail and industrial control architecture before leaving the factory floor.

What you’ll be responsible for in this role:

• Testing & Quality Assurance
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, validation procedures, and end‑of‑line (EOL) functional testing for electrical and electronic control systems.
• Integrate communication protocols to ensure seamless connectivity between production processes, equipment, and data management systems.
• Automate test setups using data acquisition hardware and software to improve testing efficiency, accuracy, and data logging.
• Analyze test data to identify root causes of component failures or programming bugs, implementing swift corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Validate compliance with industry standards, including UL.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to design, maintain, and optimize functional in‑process validation, error proofing, and end‑of‑line testing on the Conyers production floor.
• Support the Quality and Field Service teams in resolving complex field performance issues through rigorous root‑cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5‑Why).
• Document technical specifications, wiring diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing, and comprehensive validation reports.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (equivalent hands‑on experience will be considered).
• 3+ years of experience in controls engineering, test engineering, or automation, specifically within a manufacturing environment.

Preferred skills

• Deep proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLCs
• Direct experience configuring and setting up Danfoss, Copeland, and Novar refrigeration controllers.
• Hands‑on experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation (pressure transducers, temperature probes, flow meters), and electrical test equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical schematics, 3‑phase power distribution, and low‑voltage control circuits.
• Strong analytical mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and root‑cause problem‑solving.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with line operators, engineering peers, and senior leadership.
