Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or related Engineering degree.
  • Interest in engines, powertrains, motorsports engineering.
  • Basic hands-on experience from labs, clubs, or projects.
  • Familiarity with engines, drivetrains, or vehicle systems.
  • Willingness to learn test cell operations and automation tools.
  • Exposure to data acquisition or MATLAB through coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and technicians in executing test plans and procedures.
  • Support installation and removal of engines, gearboxes, and components in test cells.
  • Help prepare test cells, tooling, and instrumentation for scheduled tests.
  • Observe and assist with operation of engine and powertrain dyno systems under supervision.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of test setups and report issues to senior staff.
  • Collect, organize, and document test data accurately.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and basic upkeep of test cell areas.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company standards during testing activities.
  • Communicate progress and issues clearly with the test team.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Test Cell Operations Intern for Summer 2027. This role will support engine, powertrain, and component testing in a high-performance development environment. This role is hands-on and learning-focused, working closely with engineers and technicians to assist in operating test cells, preparing hardware, and collecting data. It is ideal for students interested in motorsports or high-performance automotive engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers and technicians in executing test plans and procedures.
  • Support installation and removal of engines, gearboxes, and components in test cells.

  • Familiarity with engines, drivetrains, or vehicle systems (academic or extracurricular).
  • Willingness to learn test cell operations and automation tools
  • Exposure to dyno testing, data acquisition, or MATLAB through coursework or projects.
