Job description

Test and Evaluation Data Analysis Engineer
Energetics Technology Center (ETC)
Location: 4445 Indian Head Highway, Indian Head, MD 20640

The Energetics Technology Center (ETC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and engineering organization founded in 2006 and headquartered in Indian Head, Maryland. ETC advances research, innovation, and workforce development in support of defense and national security missions. Working with government agencies, industry, universities, and regional partners, ETC helps strengthen the U.S. industrial base, mature and test critical technologies, and accelerate their transition into use. Its capabilities span energetic materials, warheads and fuzing, propulsion, modeling and simulation, data and digital engineering, test and evaluation, and manufacturing automation and modernization.

ETC is seeking a full-time Test and Evaluation Data Analysis Engineer to support test and evaluation programs for Department of War customers. This role focuses on processing, interpreting, and reporting data from complex test events, including pressure measurements, high-speed video, thermal data, and other diagnostics. The engineer will turn raw data into traceable technical findings that support engineering decisions.

The engineer works with the designated test lead and Instrumentation Engineer to define analysis needs before testing and receive documented data after each event. It combines hands‑on coordination with laboratory and field‑test teams with data reduction, analysis, visualization, and reporting. It requires sound engineering judgment, attention to data quality and uncertainty, and close coordination with government and ETC engineers.

This is a full-time onsite position based at ETC's Indian Head office and the customer site. Work at customer laboratory and field‑test locations will be required. Occasional travel and work outside normal business hours may be necessary to support scheduled test events and time‑sensitive data reviews, and limited remote flexibility may be available based on program and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process and analyze pressure, high-speed video, thermal, and other time‑resolved test data.
  • Produce timely quick‑look summaries that identify preliminary results, data‑quality issues, and follow‑on analysis or testing needs.
  • Synchronize and compare data from multiple instrumentation and diagnostic systems.
  • Develop reproducible workflows for data reduction, visualization, quality control, and archival, documenting inputs, calibration and processing steps, and software versions
  • Apply engineering judgment and appropriate statistical methods to identify trends, anomalies, uncertainty, and test‑to‑test variation.
  • Support test planning by reviewing instrumentation requirements, sampling needs, data formats, and analysis objectives before each event.
  • Evaluate test results with against test objectives, acceptance criteria, expected performance, prior tests, analytical predictions, and model outputs.
  • Prepare technical reports, plots, presentations, and data packages that document and explain findings for engineers, program managers, and government customers.
  • Work with test personnel to resolve missing, inconsistent, or questionable data and document analytical assumptions and limitations.
  • Coordinate with ETC subject‑matter experts and other technical resources when specialized support is required.
Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field. A master's degree in a relevant engineering, analytics, or technical discipline is preferred.

Experience Level:

Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering test, instrumentation, experimental data analysis, or related technical experience; 3-5 years or more is preferred.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • U.S. citizenship and current possession of, or eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience processing pressure transducer data, high-speed video, infrared or thermal measurements, or comparable test diagnostics.
  • Experience with data‑analysis and visualization tools such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Excel, or equivalent platforms.
  • Working knowledge of signal processing, filtering, time synchronization, calibration, measurement uncertainty, and data‑quality assessment.
  • Ability to develop traceable analyses and explain complex results in quick‑look products and formal technical reports.
  • Ability to diagnose data‑quality problems and coordinate with test teams during time‑sensitive operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team in laboratory and field‑test settings.
  • Strong organization, technical writing, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Department of War test programs, energetics testing, or weapons‑related testing.
  • Experience comparing test results with analytical predictions or model outputs.
  • Experience building repeatable data‑processing scripts, visualizations, or data packages for experimental programs.
