Job Description

Job Family Definition: Sales Specialists & Consultants are product, services, software, or solution specialists responsible for leading pursuit in their focus areas. They collaborate with and support Account Managers and provide specialist expertise within the sales team. They drive proactive campaigns to build the pipeline, prospect, qualify, negotiate, and close opportunities. They may have named accounts, cover a specific geography, or be allocated to a high-potential, competitive attack account.

Management Level Definition: Recognized authority on relevant subject matter including technologies, theories, and techniques. Contributes to innovative principles and ideas. Operates in complex disciplines, providing highly innovative solutions. Leads large, cross-division teams or projects affecting long-term goals. May participate in cross-division teams. Provides mentoring. Exercises independent judgment. Develops strategies and policies. Acts as a functional manager within area of expertise but does not manage other employees as a primary role.

Responsibilities
  • Develops long-term sales pipeline to increase market share.
  • Uses expertise to seek new opportunities for customer value and expand existing opportunities.
  • Supports account managers.
  • Sets direction for business development and solution replication.
  • Creates and grows reference customers.
  • Sells complex products or solutions on a partnership basis.
  • May act as a dedicated resource to strategic accounts.
  • Responsible for selling small outsourcing deals.
  • For Services Consultants: Focus on growing contractual renewals for large accounts.
  • Establishes professional, consultative relationships with clients, including C-level executives.
  • Maintains cross-portfolio knowledge to support account leads.
  • Contributes to enduring executive relationships and promotes solution capabilities.
  • Maintains expertise on IT applications, budgets, objectives, and metrics.
  • Maintains broad market and competitor knowledge.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Proven achievement in sales with diverse responsibilities.
  • Expert in the field, with mentorship experience.
  • Typically 7+ years of Networking Sales experience.
  • Network sales experience required.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Mastery of products, solutions, and competitor offerings.
  • Knowledge of client’s business and infrastructure.
  • Leadership in driving sales and solutions.
  • Strategic planning and business case development.
  • Effective at C-level engagement and project oversight.
  • Partner engagement experience.
  • Ability to sell high-value software solutions.
  • Leverages company portfolio to compete effectively.
  • Understands the role of services in the portfolio.
  • Maintains industry and partner knowledge.
Impact/Scope
  • Works on large accounts with significant customer interface.
  • Typically assigned higher than average quota.
Complexity
  • Leads sales where specialty is key to success.
  • Handles international or global accounts.
  • Coordinates pursuit resources regionally.
