Job Description Summary

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Manage relationships within a territory for complex surety business, including marketing, underwriting, and managing a book of new and renewal surety accounts.
  2. Drive profit and premium growth through business development, negotiation, and execution of strategic plans.
  3. Lead and influence agency relationships by developing sales strategies and increasing market share, profit, and customer retention.
  4. Collaborate across lines of business to support Nationwide’s presence and growth.
  5. Underwrite accounts based on authority levels, evaluating risks through financial statements, credit reports, and underwriting documents.
  6. Achieve production, profitability, and service objectives, making decisions on business acceptance within authority guidelines.
  7. Manage workflow efficiently, ensuring quality and adherence to strategic direction.
  8. Develop and execute agency business plans, identify opportunities for cross-selling, and recommend new agency partnerships.
  9. Market products and services, assist agencies with pipeline management, and develop new business opportunities.
  10. Resolve business issues proactively, share industry insights, and improve agency retention and profitability.
  11. Establish and maintain strong relationships with agencies, producers, and key stakeholders.
  12. Deliver high levels of customer service, handling escalated requests effectively.
  13. Ensure tools, training, and support are provided to enhance success, and participate in training and mentorship as needed.
  14. Monitor business performance and implement action plans to meet underwriting standards and performance expectations.
Additional Information

Reports to: Manager or Director. No direct reports.

Qualifications include an undergraduate degree, pursuit of insurance coursework (preferred), and at least seven years of relevant surety underwriting experience. Knowledge of state laws, underwriting standards, and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Other criteria, including leadership skills and competencies, may be prioritized. Staffing exceptions require approval from the hiring manager and HR.

Work Conditions: Extended or non-standard hours and extensive travel may be required. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record are necessary.
