Job Description Summary

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Manage relationships within a territory for complex surety business, including markets, underwriting, and renewal of surety accounts through direct contact with agencies or brokers.
  2. Drive profit and premium growth by developing, negotiating, and executing business plans.
  3. Lead and influence agencies through sales strategies and processes that increase sales, shelf space, profit, and customer retention.
  4. Collaborate across lines of business to support and enhance Nationwide's presence.
  5. Underwrite accounts based on authority levels and appetite, within limited guidance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor market conditions and gather competitive intelligence.
  • Analyze risks, financial statements, credit reports, and underwriting documents to evaluate risk exposure.
  • Achieve production and profitability goals, making underwriting decisions within authority guidelines.
  • Manage workflow efficiently, ensuring quality and meeting service levels.
  • Develop agency business plans, identify opportunities for cross-selling, and recommend new agency appointments.
  • Market products and services, assist agencies with pipeline management, and develop new business strategies.
  • Resolve business issues proactively, sharing insights and industry trends with leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agencies and key partners.
  • Lead delivery of customer service and ensure proper handling of escalated requests.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and professional development to team members.
  • Monitor business results, review business processes, and implement improvements.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to a manager or director. No direct reports.

Qualifications

Education: Undergraduate degree in business or related field preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Pursuit of insurance coursework such as AFSB is desirable.

Experience: Seven years of progressive surety underwriting experience preferred.

Skills: Deep knowledge of surety products, excellent interpersonal and sales skills, ability to perform independently with sound judgment, and a results-driven mindset.

Additional Information
