Job summary

Puyallup Tribe of Indians seeks a Compliance Officer for the TERO department to enforce Indian Preference laws and coordinate between employees, employers, federal agencies, and unions to ensure TERO compliance.

The role monitors agreements affecting employment on and off the Reservation and increases Native referrals. Requires an AA or equivalent, knowledge of EEOC/Title VII/TERO, and solid office skills. Benefits include comprehensive coverage and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• AA from a two-year college or technical school, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of EEOC, Title VII and TERO laws.
• Office skills including typing and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Background check clearance and valid WA driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Monitor Indian Preference in general and subcontracting activities.
• Develop and maintain Indian owned business registry for contracting, subcontracting and supply contracts.
• Document intake including complaints, compliance and utilization plans.
• Negotiate Indian Preference agreements on/off the Reservation to increase referrals.
• Implement and monitor Indian Preference in employment and training in all contract and policy development.
• Liaise between employees, Federal Agencies, Unions and offices to support TERO goals.
• Place minimally qualified TERO clients in positions with training and promotion potential.
• Perform on-site inspections of employers for compliance.
• Monitor local and Reservation based private employers for contract compliance.
• Process charges for TERO violations and complaints; assist hearings.
• Monitor Tribal Employment Right Office activities monthly/quarterly.
• Compile and document information for review by the TERO Director and Commission.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
