Job summary

Global Partners LP is seeking a Terminal Technologies Architect to design, configure, program, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems powering terminal operations. You’ll work with operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT to ensure safe, reliable automation across bulk storage, loading, and tank farm activities.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting, commissioning, and validating systems, with a focus on cyber security and disaster recovery in OT environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/automation fields required.
  • Strong PLC/HMI/SCADA and networking knowledge essential.
  • Experience in live industrial environments and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, program, and maintain PLC/HMI/SCADA for terminal ops.
  • Support tank farms, loading racks, pump/valve controls, metering and injection systems.
  • Troubleshoot automation, networking, and control issues in real time.
  • Perform validation, commissioning, and documentation of projects.
  • Maintain backups, change control, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support OT cybersecurity initiatives and network segmentation.
  • Travel up to 25% to terminal locations as needed.

The Terminal Technologies Architect is responsible for designing, configuring, programming, and maintaining industrial control systems that support terminal operations. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of automation systems across bulk liquid storage, product transfer, truck and rail loading, and tank farm operations. Working cross‑functionally with operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT teams, the position plays a key role in supporting day‑to‑day activities and driving continuous improvement initiatives across terminal infrastructure.

Your Role, Your Impact
  • Develop, configure, modify, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications supporting terminal operations.
  • Support automation systems for tank farms, truck loading racks, rail loading and unloading systems, pump and valve control systems, metering systems, and additive injection systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PLC, networking, instrumentation, and control system issues.
  • Perform system testing, validation, and commissioning activities for automation projects.
  • Develop and maintain PLC logic, functional specifications, cause‑and‑effect matrices, and control narratives.
  • Support networked industrial environments including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, and serial communications.
  • Participate in emergency troubleshooting and after‑hours support as needed.
  • Maintain system backups, change management documentation, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives within operational technology (OT) environments.
Qualifications
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC platforms such as Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix, Siemens, Schneider Electric. Experience with HMI and SCADA systems. Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, serial communications. Experience with instrumentation including flow meters, pressure transmitters, level systems, temperature devices, valve controls. Understanding electrical drawings, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control narratives. Ability to troubleshoot complex automation systems in a live operational environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in bulk liquid terminal operations, petroleum distribution, or pipeline facilities. Familiarity with terminal automation systems and loading rack control systems. Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity practices and OT network architecture. Experience supporting upgrades and migrations of legacy automation systems. Familiarity with safety instrumented systems and regulatory requirements. Relevant certifications in PLC programming, controls, or industrial networking.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Effective communication skills with operations and technical teams. Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional environments. Strong documentation and organizational skills. Commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Working Conditions: Work performed in office, terminal, and field environments. Up to 25% travel to terminal locations may be required. Comfortable working in environments with industrial equipment and varying weather conditions. Participation in an on‑call rotation and availability for off‑hours support as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field.
Pay Range

$130,200.00 – $195,400.00 The pay range for this position is outlined above. The final amount offered at the start of employment is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience level, knowledge, skills, abilities and geographic location, and the company reserves the right to modify base salary at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
