Job summary

Ash Grove Cement Company in Duluth, MN seeks a Terminal Operator I to perform loading/unloading, on-site administration, and safety compliance. You will support site upkeep, participate in 5S programs, and ensure a positive customer experience while operating on-site equipment.

The role requires a high school diploma and 1–2 years of experience. Training will be provided; safety and teamwork are essential in this cement environment with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent is required.
• One to two years experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
• Willingness to learn; training will be provided.
• Mechanical ability is an asset.
• Experience with inventory control software and MS Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

• Load trucks and/or rail cars as per the daily schedule using on-site systems.
• Unload product per the daily schedule using on-site systems.
• Maintain shipping logs and prepare bills of lading.
• Engage with customers to ensure solid on-site service.
• Support site maintenance and 5S initiatives to improve operations.
• Follow all plant safety guidelines and participate in safety programs.

Position: Terminal Operator I

Reports to: Terminal Manager

Pay: $23/hr

What you'll be contributing:

The Terminal Operator I will complete daily loading, unloading, administration and safety requirements on site. They will also actively participate in site maintenance and upkeep to drive the 5s and "make it better" programs. The Terminal Operator I will actively engage with customers to ensure that we are providing a solid customer experience on site.

• Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
• Gains full understanding and demonstrate adherence to the safety program
• Loads trucks and/ or rail cars as per the daily schedule utilizing the on-site systems
• Unloads product as per the daily schedule utilizing the on-site systems
• Operates on site mobile equipment and receive training
• Handles inquiries and orders for customers and sales personnel
• Maintains shipping logs, prepares bills of lading, and calculates split-load tonnages based on a customer's instructions
• Works with company apps for site emails, safety incident reporting, completing training and other programs.
• Maintains supply point and 5S standards
• Assists with basic maintenance of equipment on site
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:

• High school graduation or equivalent is required
• One to two years experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
• Mechanical ability an asset
• Experience with inventory control software, proficiency with MS Word and Excel
• Must be safety aware and able to adhere to company safety requirements
• Good communication skills to deal with truckers, customers and other employees
• Work well with others and individually
• Effective problem solving, Decision making and attention to detail
• Significant use of memory.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

What to expect in a cement environment:

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
