Job summary

Sprague is seeking Bronx Terminal Operator to join our team in a demanding outdoor maritime environment. You will load and offload vessels, gauge tanks, test samples, and track inventory while maintaining equipment and safety standards.

Travel to other Sprague terminals may be required. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, basic math skills, a valid driver's license and TWIC card, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Proficient in basic math, including fractions.
• Must take and pass Certificate of Fitness test for NYC Fire Department.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid TWIC card.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading, piping diagrams, boiler and fuel specifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Loading and offloading of vessels and monitoring the movement of product.
• Providing rack customer assistance by educating drivers regarding paperwork and proper loading procedures.
• Gauging 15 oil tanks daily (heights up to 65 feet) at least once per day.
• Testing product samples in the terminal Lab.
• Daily entering and tracking inventory information into the Guardian system.
• Completing two Detex rounds per shift by foot, totaling 33 security checkpoints.
• Maintaining and repairing storage tanks, dock and loading rack including draining loading arms, cleaning strainers, installing pump sets.

As a valued team member, the Bronx Terminal Operator will work in a team environment, alongside leadership, to optimize efficiency while focusing on safety on every shift. You will have the opportunity to execute a variety of operations including but not limited to taking in and managing liquid petroleum barge receipts, conducting tank to tank transfers, assisting and training customers to load product, preventative maintenance, customer service and general upkeep of the terminal. Work is primarily performed outdoors in a maritime environment and occasional travel to other Sprague terminals may be required. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintaining and repairing storage tanks, dock and loading rack including, draining loading arms, cleaning strainers, installing pump sets etc.
• Providing general facilities maintenance including snowplowing, shoveling, painting, yard clean up and mechanical maintenance of vehicles.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficient in basic math, including fractions.
• Working knowledge of mechanical trades preferred
• Basic computer knowledge
• Must take and pass Certificate of Fitness test, NYC Fire Department
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid TWIC card.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of blueprint reading, piping diagrams, boiler and fuel specifications preferred
• Past experience in bulk fuel storage plants preferred.
• Required to do shift work including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed

Physical activity/strength requirements are demanding and may include:

• Frequent standing, walking climbing-stairs ladders, slopes (i.e., tank ladders/stairs/ramps), grasping/handling.
• Constant lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. (i.e. oil, steel parts, spouts, tools)
• Constant pulling up to 75 lbs. (i.e. mooring lines)
• Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions including extreme heat/cold, noise, fumes and odors and slippery surfaces caused by weather conditions.

The rate for this position is $29 to $34 per hour based on experience.
