Job summary

Kinder Morgan seeks a Terminal Operator to oversee liquid product handling at our North American terminals. You will operate pipelines, barges, and tank transfers, perform gauges, and manage boiler operations when required.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus trade training or an Associate’s degree preferred. Flexible 24/7 scheduling, PPE use, and strong teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade school, formal training or an Associate’s degree highly desirable.
  • Experience/familiarity with pipe wrenches, box wrenches and other similar tools.
  • Excellent mathematical skills (Addition, Subtraction, Fractions, Multiplication, and Percentages) are required.
  • Flexible schedule to work in a 24 hour per day operation and/or weekend/holiday work is required.
  • Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Superior work ethic and dependability.
  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions as outside work is mandatory.
  • Physical requirements include walking up/down stairs/ladders and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Must wear PPE and qualify to wear a Full Face Respirator.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Successful completion of background check, physical and drug screen upon offer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all functions of Terminal Operations as directed by work orders and supervision.
  • Handle liquid products by pipeline, barges, tank transfers, tank cars and tank trucks; boiler operations as required.
  • Perform gauge readings and heating functions for products in terminal facilities.
  • Conduct spill cleanup and participate in safety programs.
  • Maintain housekeeping on operation activities, grounds and buildings; assist environmental services and maintenance.
  • Participate in company training programs and related testing.
  • Work may fall into four classifications: Terminal Operator, Boiler Operator, Gauger or Maintenance Mechanic.

Job description

What You Will Do
  • Perform all functions of Terminal Operations as directed by work orders and/or supervision consistent with standard operating procedures, state and local regulations in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • The position performs work associated with liquid product handling of a variety of chemicals and petrochemicals, by way of pipeline, barges, tank-to-tank transfers, tank car, and tank truck, boiler operations and/or other work required within the terminal.
  • Performs both physical gauges and side gauge readings as required.
  • Performs heating functions of required products in terminal storage facilities and mode units as required. Operation of an industrial boiler may be required.
  • Conducts spill clean up operations as required.
  • Performs housekeeping chores on operation activities, grounds and buildings.
  • Assists in both environmental services and maintenance as required.
  • Participates in company training programs and related testing.
  • The position may be within one of four classifications which include Terminal Operator, Boiler Operator, Gauger and Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Overtime is voluntary, though it can be mandatory if there are no volunteers.
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards and procedures requirements.
  • Certain conditions of employment will be governed by the agreement between Kinder Morgan Liquid Terminals and the United Steel Workers union.
What You Need
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Trade school, formal training/significant work experience, or Associate's degree highly desirable
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience/familiarity with pipe wrenches, box wrenches and other similar tools
  • Excellent mathematical skills (Addition, Subtraction, Fractions, Multiplication, and Percentages) are required
  • Flexible schedule to work in a 24 hour per day operation and /or weekend/holiday work is required
  • The ability to work from written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules, as well as, take on additional job responsibilities as needed
  • Superior work ethic and dependability
  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions as outside work is mandatory
  • Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to, walking up and down stairs/ladders including heights over 40 feet, negotiating uneven surfaces, and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to wear standard PPE (Hard Hat, Goggles, Rain Gear, Steel Toe Boots), and qualify to wear a Full Face Respirator
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers
  • Successful completion of a background check, physical and drug screen upon offer
  • Complete other related duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with handling hazardous liquid chemicals
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, Industrial Hygiene and other industry regulations a major plus
  • Terminal Operator, Boiler Operator, Gauger and/or Maintenance Mechanic experience
Pay Range

USD $38.95 - USD $41.90 /Hr.
