Job summary

Kinder Morgan, Inc. is seeking a terminal operator to load and offload rail cars, ships and barges, and to monitor tank temperatures and levels. The role collaborates with foremen and terminal staff to ensure products are moved and delivered as planned.

Responsibilities include following EH&S policies, operating valves and pumps, climbing tank stairs, and maintaining HazMat training. A strong attendance record and the ability to work rotating shifts are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Must be willing to work day or night shift schedule and overtime with little notice.
  • Regular attendance is required to perform essential duties.
  • Must carry a company-issued cell phone/radio and be on-call as required.
  • Basic math skills are required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to use personal/company vehicle.

Job description

What We Are Looking For

Position will be responsible for handling renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. Position will interact with other terminal staff to ensure the products movement are delivered as planned.

What You Will Do
  • Load and offload rail/tank cars, ships and barges.
  • Record product temperature and levels in storage tanks.
  • Perform work as assigned and directed by Foreman.
  • Perform all work in strict accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all work in strict accordance with operating policies, procedures and checklists.
  • Climb tank stairs, operate valves and pumps, gauge tanks.
  • Maintain training in Safety and Hazmat requirements at the facility.
  • Perform or assist in the performance of preventive and regular maintenance duties.
  • Assist Operations with product transfer alignments including piping, pumps and associated valves.
  • Become a member of the Emergency Response Team.
What You Need

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.
  • Some College Education preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Must be willing to work day or night shift schedule as assigned and overtime with little to no notice during the week, weekends, holiday, etc. as needed for operational needs.
  • In order to appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
  • Ability to carry a company issued cell phone/radio and be on-call during and after regular business and non-working hours including after dark hours, for work as may be required, assigned and scheduled as dictated by operations
  • Proficient in comprehension of written work orders
  • Basic math skills required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers and must be willing to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.
  • Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations.
  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones such as background checks by the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Must be able to pass respiratory fit testing.
  • Must train in Safety and Hazmat requirements at the facility
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

Working Conditions:

  • Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan's rules and policies.
  • Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • This position consists of outside work and adverse weather conditions may apply.
  • Able to handle working with chemicals, acids and petroleum products and be around vapors with respiratory protection
  • Able to work with wrenches and pipe wrenches and other tools
  • Requires turning and tightening nuts and bolts lifting up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work on docks
  • Regularly exposed to outside in adverse weather conditions and also but not limited to: heights in excess of 5 feet, work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas, etc.
  • Climb ladders and work at high elevations, using the proper safety equipment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, etc. for extended periods of time
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
