Job summary

Kinder Morgan is seeking a Terminal Technician to safely manage petroleum products in a North American operation. The role emphasizes HSSE compliance, equipment knowledge, and accurate logging with computer systems.

You will perform readings, calibrations, and routine maintenance, while ensuring safety and regulatory adherence. Candidates must be able to work up to 16 hours per shift and be available for on-call duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must complete a pre-employment application.
  • Able and willing to work up to 16 hours a shift.
  • Ability to work outside for long periods and in any weather conditions.
  • Willing to be on call 24/7 at times.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or drag hoses and equipment up to 50 pounds and climb heights up to 50 feet.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must pass a Job Skills Test (JST).

Responsibilities

  • Follow HSSE and operational practices and procedures.
  • Understand terminal equipment and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment for safe, 24/7 operations.
  • Coordinate with managers, peers and contractors as needed.
  • Interface with Project Managers and support preventive maintenance programs.

What We Are Looking For

The terminal Technician is responsible for the handling of petroleum and products in a safe and environmentally appropriate manner.

What You Will Do
  • Successfully and effectively follow all health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and operational practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of terminal equipment, regulatory requirements, terminal maintenance and computer operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow internal and external policies and procedures and recognize out of compliance conditions and implement corrective action.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain equipment in a manner that will allow for safe, efficient operations 24/7.
  • Ability to work alone at times which will require a high level of motivation and initiative.
  • Effectively communicate with Managers, Peers and Contractors as necessary to perform the Terminal Technician role.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks.
In addition, the Terminal Technician will perform the following tasks as part of their job responsibilities (not meant to be all inclusive)
  • Perform automatic and manual readings (meters, gauges, etc.)
  • Perform maintenance and housekeeping on various pieces of terminal equipment and/or terminal grounds involving physical labor activities such as lifting, hammering, wrenching, pulling or climbing.
  • Conduct sampling, calibration and other quality assurance activities.
  • Gauge terminal tanks before receipt of product by the truck, railcar or marine tanker vessel.
  • Monitor contractors for adherence to prescribed safety guidelines.
  • Utilize computers to log information, complete training and communicate with others.
  • Complete authorization to work permits and other safety related paperwork and procedures such as lock-out/tag-out.
  • Calibrate various pieces of equipment.
  • Maintain product integrity.
  • Learn and follow government regulations.
  • Provide safety orientations, as appropriate.
  • Maintain terminal automation systems and all related equipment.
  • Keep appropriate documentation up to date, organized, and readily available.
  • Interface effectively with Project Managers.
  • Assist with, prepare, and implement a preventive maintenance program.
What You Need
Essential Education
  • High School diploma or GED is required
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must complete a pre-employment application.
  • Able and willing to work up to 16 hours a shift.
  • Ability to work outside for long periods of time and in any weather conditions.
  • Willing to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at times.
  • Must be physically qualified, including but not limited to, the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or drag hoses and equipment of up to 50 pounds in weight and climb heights up to 50 feet.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude (currently have or capability to develop skills and abilities).
  • Must have good communications skills and technical language with ability to check for understanding to eliminate miscommunications.
  • Must have ability to work effectively with contractors.
  • Must have solid math skills (that meet requirements of the job including addition/subtraction, percentages and fractions).
  • Must demonstrate initiative and be an effective member of work team.
  • Possess basic to intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Must pass a Job Skills Test (JST).
Desirable Criteria and Qualifications
  • 2 years pipeline or oil/petroleum industry experience- required
  • Post High School education in technical crafts or work experience in job duties described above- preferred
  • Knowledge of diagrams (electrical/mechanical) reading.
  • Knowledge of pressure control devices, valves, etc.
  • This facility also has a Marine Vessel loading and unloading activities; experience with such work- preferred
Pay Range

USD $40.25 - USD $40.25 /Hr.
