Job summary

The Terminal Manager at NRS, Inc. will oversee receiving, warehousing and distribution activities, ensuring compliance with safety policies and customer expectations.

You will lead a team of Managers and Supervisors, set productivity goals, manage the terminal budget, and develop training programs to meet KPIs while maintaining strong customer relationships and adherence to OSHA, DOT, and hazmat rules.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years leading warehouses or distribution centers, including 3+ years supervising salaried staff.
  • 3+ years in a 3PL or customer-facing logistics role.
  • Proven ability to manage complex operations with attention to detail.
  • Strong focus on customer service excellence and relationship management.
  • Proficient in WMS/TMS and Excel for operational reporting.
  • Experience developing and implementing operational procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong leadership and communication across all levels.
  • Budget management and cost-control experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and oversee facility work to meet planned objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to customer and company KPIs, establish and monitor productivity goals, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Determine staffing needs based on work volume forecasts and coordinate with temporary agencies to meet daily requirements.
  • Manage a team of Managers and Supervisors, providing leadership and direction.
  • Train Managers and Supervisors on their responsibilities, productivity, service levels, accuracy, and safety goals.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers to discuss service goals and ensure they are met or exceeded.
  • Work with the Human Resources office to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Implement communication systems for timely research and response to customer inquiries.
  • Establish and monitor security procedures and protocols to safeguard warehouse operations.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, DOT, and hazmat regulations, including required recordkeeping, incident reporting, and safety training.
  • Enforce OS&D (Over, Short, and Damage) procedures for policy adherence.
  • Manage the terminal operating budget, including labor, overtime, and supply costs, and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Develop training and cross-training programs to ensure comprehensive understanding of duties and versatility among associates.
  • Promote and lead good housekeeping programs to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Overview

The Terminal Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the terminal operations, including receiving, warehousing, and distribution activities. This role involves initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational, safety, and procedural policies. The Terminal Manager ensures compliance with personnel policies and maintains effective communication with customers and upper management. The Terminal Manager is instrumental in establishing productivity goals, staffing requirements, and training programs to meet or exceed customer Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Duties And Responsibilities

Required
  • 7+ years of progressive warehouse or distribution center leadership experience, including 3+ years managing salaried supervisors or managers.
  • 3+ years in a 3PL or customer-facing logistics environment, with direct accountability for customer relationships.
  • Proven ability to manage complex operations with attention to detail.
  • Strong focus on customer service excellence and relationship management.
  • Excellent reporting and documentation skills, with the ability to produce and analyze operational reports.
  • Proficient in warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and Microsoft Excel for operational reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing operational procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively communicating with all levels of staff and external partners.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Experience with budget management and cost control measures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing operational needs.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in logistics or supply chain management.
Physical Demands
  • Supervisory Presence: Regular walking and standing to oversee warehouse operations, inspect inventory, and monitor staff performance.
  • Operational Coordination: Directing the movement of trucks and freight within the terminal or warehouse yard, requiring good hand-eye coordination and quick decision-making.
  • Computer Use: Frequent use of computers and handheld devices for inventory management, scheduling, and communication, necessitating manual dexterity.
  • Environmental Exposure: Work may involve exposure to warehouse environments, outdoor conditions, and all types of weather while managing operations in the yard.
