Job summary

Penn Tank Lines is seeking a Terminal Manager to lead operations at one of our terminals in Birmingham, AL. You will be responsible for overall terminal performance, including financial results, safety and compliance, service execution, customer satisfaction, and team leadership.

Responsibilities include driving cost control, analyzing data for improvements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining service levels with fleet utilization.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership with experience managing staff and day-to-day execution.
• Ability to interpret financial and operational data and take action.
• Clear and effective communication across employees, customers, and leadership.
• Minimum of 3 years in logistics, transportation, or operations management.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Lead terminal operations with accountability for cost control, service performance, profitability, and overall business results.
• Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, address performance gaps, and implement practical improvements.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies across terminal operations.
• Maintain accountability for service levels, fleet utilization, and customer commitments while resolving operational issues as they arise.
• Develop and implement transportation strategies that support profitability, service objectives, and efficient execution.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure consistent service delivery and support business retention.
• Hire, train, coach, and manage terminal staff and drivers in accordance with company policies and performance expectations.
• Partner with internal teams to support process improvements, operational consistency, and long-term terminal success.

About the Role

Penn Tank Lines is seeking a Terminal Manager to lead operations at one of our terminals. This role is responsible for overall terminal performance, including financial results, safety and compliance, service execution, customer satisfaction, and team leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong operational judgment, takes ownership of results, and works effectively within a structured environment where service, safety, and accountability matter every day.

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities

• Strong leadership capability with experience managing employee performance, accountability, and day-to-day execution
• Sound decision-making and comfort taking initiative in a role with direct operational responsibility
• Ability to interpret financial and operational data and turn insights into action
• Clear and effective communication skills across employees, customers, and leadership
• Working knowledge of transportation management systems, dispatch operations, and hours-of-service regulations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
• Ability to balance responsiveness, structure, and follow-through in a fast-moving operational setting
• Willingness to support a schedule aligned with business and service requirements

Other Requirements

• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or operations management
