Job description

TERM INSTRUCTOR - HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY POOL

Teach 18 on‑site contact hours per regular semester, which may include online courses or dual‑credit/early college classes. Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline. Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs. Continuously advance the quality of instruction. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students of differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting course outcomes. Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Responsibilities
  • Plan course instruction based on approved syllabus or outline to ensure course content and objectives are met.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.
  • Teach and communicate with students from varied multicultural backgrounds.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
  • Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
  • Hold scheduled, posted virtual or physical office hours of at least one hour daily and be available for and encourage conferences with students.
  • Assist in academic advising of declared majors, and with marketing programs and recruiting students.
  • Participate in the self‑evaluation process, establishing goals and objectives which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the department chair.
  • Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development and engagement activities.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in the teaching discipline or related field.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification AND three (3) years of experience in the Health Information field
  • OR
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification AND three (3) years of experience in the Health Information field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline or related field.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success.
  • Knowledge of a learning community.
  • Experience teaching college level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction.
