Job summary

University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for a non-tenure track, term assistant professor of journalism and public communications with a specialty in media production, documentary film, videography and/or multimedia journalism. The position is based in Anchorage, AK, and will involve teaching hands-on production courses and mentoring community‑engaged projects that matter in Alaska.

Qualifications

• PhD in Journalism or related field by appointment; exceptions for Master’s or JD with seven+ years relevant experience.
• Disciplinary expertise in media production, documentary film, videography and/or multimedia journalism.
• Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the college/university level.
• Preferred: experience across modalities (online/hybrid), curriculum development, program assessment, grant writing, community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Teach hands-on production courses and mentor community‑engaged projects.
• Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment.
• Collaborate with a close-knit team and engage Alaska communities.
