Job summary

William & Mary seeks a tenured Professor in Data Science with research leadership in AI/ML addressing large-scale problems. Appointment begins August 10, 2027. Strong candidates will have a record of external funding, teaching excellence, and international visibility in AI and data science.

The successful applicant will teach NLP and related AI courses, mentor students, and help develop an emergent generative AI curriculum within the Data Science department.

Qualifications

• Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field at the time appointment begins.
• Experience teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate and graduate research.
• Track record of externally-funded research and scholarly achievement with leadership in AI & data science.

Responsibilities

• Research, teaching, and service to the university.
• Establish and maintain an externally funded, internationally recognized research program.
• Teach courses in NLP, AI for physical sciences, and generative AI; contribute to new curriculum.
