Job summary

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks a dynamic Assistant Professor of Spanish to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year. The candidate will develop and teach Peninsular Literature courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, both in traditional and online formats, and will contribute to program development, student advising, and committee work.

The position is tenure-track, with a strong emphasis on research and publication and a commitment to the department’s multicultural values.

Qualifications

• PhD in Peninsular Literature or related field; 18 graduate hours in Spanish; ABDs considered but doctorate must be by Aug 31, 2027.
• Demonstrated potential for research and publication.
• Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence.
• Demonstrated potential for external research funding and support.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach Peninsular Literature courses at undergraduate and graduate levels; online and on-site.
• Advise students and participate on program/department committees.
• Develop a solid research agenda in the field.
